Just got new Road&Track!! They think the "Kabura" is the next RX-7!!! They have three pages of pics in the article. I think this might be what we all have been waiting for. GO GET IT!!! I want one.....

They asked Mazda!!! Its on front cover and page 5. Then the article is on page 48-49&51. New pics!!! NEW BUZZ!! You have to read....

First off, there's several things wrong. It's supposed to be inexpensive, and that's not the RX-7, and if it's got the MZR, it's not an RX-7.

I call heresay. I think this will just be a new sports car from Mazda, not the recreation of the RX-7 or anything like that. Everyone keeps looking for concepts of a new RX-7, and I feel that Mazda came out with the Kabura without the RX-7 in mind, and the media has jumped on it and labelled it the RX-7 because of the shape of the car as a 2 door sports coupe/hatch. Just like all of the other RX-7 schetches/drawings/renders/whatever, it's all just speculation by the media.

You're right, they think. They don't know for sure, they just speculated. Unfortunately, you, and I'm sure thousands of others, believe them. I don't, I know better.

Becides, it's too early to tell. How about waiting for a production concept and not just a basic concept? This is the RX-Evolv of the RX-8. There's still 1 or 2 concepts to go before we know what will actually be produced.

I wait for word from Mazda Media Japan.

I also call BS....Mazda willlose a lot of respect if they put a 4cyl in their new "rx-7"

RX-7 stands for Rotary Experimental & should have nothing else...

The article and pics are not the same as on line. You need someone to scan the article and all the pics....

They asked the designer "Would you like it to be the next RX-7"? " We made sure it could house a Rotary."

It doesn't make sense... RX stands for ROTARY engine.
I hope it stays as a concept!

The RX stands for "Rotary eXperimental."

And dont believe everything you read...because they asked, "Hey is that the new RX7."

Right now mazda doesnt really have a car that they can publicly say, "yes" so they were forced to say "yes." What if they said, "no" then people would be like damn...the RX7 is dead.

Same goes with those "drawings" alot of them are done by japanese auto design students.

Like when Autoweek said there wasnt going to be a turbo solstic...apparently they talked to GM and they say "no to turbo." then Pontiac goes ahead and unveils the GXP....show how honest and full of s*** some of these publications were about "future models."

a famous example was R&T's specualtion of the "blue devil" corvette. Specatators at the ring were like "I hear a supercharger whine form a corvette." And it laped a pretty fsat time. R&T called GM and GM didnt confirm or deny a "Blue devil." so R&T went ahead and said they believe it was a supercharged LS7 pumping out 700 hp. corvette forum were nutting themselves and GM guys were being cocky....Now about a few months later it was confirmed that it was a regular ZO6 and the driver was a lemans driver. how cruel R&T was and how cruel GM was.

I mean it may share similar lines but concepts often look nothing like the final car. Look at the RX8 and its concept model...RX evolution?

And there was that RX-01 which many, very many, people thought was the next RX-7. Where is it now? Mazda Museum in Hiroshima.

ya i have read the article too and they basically just said if Mazda wanted to the car is made so that the engine compartment could handle a rotary. Mazda said they have thought about making it the next RX-7 but has not officially made plans for it to happen definetly. It was just a crazy design that was thought up built and is now just leaving a bunch of mazda idiots like us wondering what the hell its gunna be called and what motor is gunna be in it lol

They havent offically made plans. and they arent suppose to say much or comment about any future "RX-7." as you can see from the video transcript I typed up (IN BIG BOLD LETTERS). Even the project manager of the RX8 (most likely for the RX7 too) cant comment much about it. But if you watch Best Motoring "Rotary Rocket" you will understand.

The project manager of the RX8 went on and explained the whole RX8 program. He basically said its a new engine but more importantly a new suspention and chasis. The engine, tranny and suspention has been strategically redesigned to unleash more potential in a MAzda sports car. Suspention has been completley redesigned to give it more linear travel. And they tested it out on the tougue roads and it was faster then the Spirit R RX7. So they said they have a great chasis and suspention now. And that they can focus on a more powerful engine unit. I think his exact words were...stright from the project manager of the RX8...

They had a problem in that the rotary engine has been out of most markets for nearly 10 years. They needed to introduce rotary engine back into the public. The rputation of poor gas milage, tedious matinence and ect detracted most from buying a rotary engine. They needed a car that was practical but sporty to drive (becasue RX is a sports car). So what better to sell a car that can seat passengers comfortably but offer really good handling and performance.....that the main goal of the project and it was also goign to be a test bed for the new chasis and suspention...which we also see in the MX5. So dont be suprised if the next RX7 shared everything except for engine and looks. But now since the RX8 engine has proved its reliability, emissions, and performance...and the handling and suspention has also been proven. they can go directly to a pure sports car that is a 2 seater. the next RX7. But imagine if they came out witht he RX7 1st...sales would have sucked. Because what do most people who drive RX8s like? The rear seats and the sportiness.

Give them credit because they never really gave up. in the late 90s Mazda was down to seven engineers and they designed the Renisis in thier spare time. When the market said Rotary engines were basically dead.

This is what he said in the video...Its Best Motoring international "Rotary rocket."

"This car was given a sporty compact dimension, but still enough room for passengers. Plus , the engine was laid far back at the front, making the blanace closer to a midship. Such a overall design can only be achieved with a rotary engine. Our goal was to develop a sports car for the future. We designed the suspention to move freely. WE wanted to avoid setting up the car with small suspention strokes. instead, we opted to give the car alot of stroke. The suspention was to move freely and linear, without unatural handling changes. The way we are using suspention bushings are completely diffeerent from conventional methods. In the old days, or cars up to now, we use tow and camber angles to adjust how energy is transfered to the bushings. There have been many theroies how tow and camber angles shoould be controlled. In this car, we focused on simplifying the relationship between the bushings and tow/camber angles. In General, the car's weight and energy transfered to the bushing in a linear fashion. The bushings were prevented from being exposed to excessive force or energy. We really looked at the basics of car design. Perhaps that's why the car has recieved praises in terms of handling and performance . thats how we had designed the suspention.

{later in video}

I think the rotary engine truely represents Mazda's corprate identitiy.

{later in video}

All I can say for now is that we are ready to develop and introduce anything that the market will demand in the future. A car that will beat the RX-8 will have to be a new RX-7

the old man himself...famous rotary tuner.

I hope they release a true 300 hp plus sports car in the near future.

Suspention specs
RX8 has front double wishbone suspention with new 5 link design for rear suspention.

FD3S has 4 wheel double wishbone suspention with dynamic Geometric control.

yup...everyone and their mom was screaming RX7 and how this was the next RX7. 2 seater....with rotary engine? thats the next RX7! Of course Mazda never confirm nor denied it was the next RX7....they just said this is a concept design called the RX-01. But peopel went ahead and infered that this is the next RX7 and pretty much you have all the big publications saying "Next RX7?" it eventually evolved into a RX8...meaning that the concept was not totally useless. And that the future cars will share similar concepts...but will look nothing like the final production.

But you would understand why people thought this car was the next RX7 in 1995-1996. As MazKid said its one of those collectors car at Mazda's museum.

The 2004 Mazda RX-8 has evolved through two concepts-- the 1995 RX-01 and the 1999 RX-EVOLV -- and manages to maintain its lean performance-oriented character while offering real second-row seating.

Every one here is talking about the "new RX7" isnt that what the RX8 is supposed to be? So technically wouldnt it be the new RX8.

I dont like it. but maybe that because I love the FD3S so much. the 8 and this new concept just dont have the same sexy curves that 94+ RX7 has.

they said the concept cradles a 4cyl but the engine bay was designed to house a rotary and the engineers specifically did it on perpose. just read the article, you'll see. i have the same mag. It's really ugly IMO but a new Rx-7 would be nice.

If you continue reading the interview with the designer he tells R&T that it is NOT the next rx7. Sure it can house the renesis, but even the designer knows this isn't it at all.
