New to Mazda!

Hello, I purchased a 2003.5 MSP in Blue yesterday with 13,123 miles on it. I am new to Mazda and this is the first Mazda I have ever driven or owned. I traded in my 2005 Scion tC, I was happy with the car but unhappy with performance and cost to mod the car. I also wanted something 4 door. Anyway I have been cruising the boards to see what I can learn and find out.

One issue I am having with my MSP is in 3 gear at 3800-4000rpms the car will get a dead miss and buck, Its really weird, I check all my vaccum lines and could not find any leaks. I cannot figure out what it is. I have also notice at hiboost the turbo seems to lag so I read on here thats a known issue and the ECU should be reflashed by Mazda for this. is this something I should wait and do after I do more mods so far I have (Injen CAI, Vac Boost Gauge, Turbo Timer, NGKBPR7es)

Anyway I love the car so much, this is not my turbo experience, so I am trying to baby this car, As soon as I get a day off I want to get rid of the turkey so I dont mess up my turbo in the long run.

I apologize if I couldnt find all the material about the car. If anyone can throw some pointers or tips at me to do. I also want to know if 8 or 9lbs of boost would be safe at this time or should I wait til I get a Unichip or SAFC?

Thanks in advance
Josh

Welcome to the forums. stay away from the boost until you get some supporting mods (IC, TB exhaust, EMS, etc.) :)

Just bought mine yesterday as well...I wasn't even looking for one, but it fell right into my lap! After driving it, I couldn't pass it up!

I've already learned quite a bit about the car from browsing these parts the past couple of days. Nice place here :D

I just drove my car home from a friends house, on the highway in 3rd gear at 3800 to 4000 rpms, the car dead misses and the whole car bucks, until i let off the gas try again and same thing keeps happening. I pulled over, checked my intercooler piping, check the pipe that goes into the upper intercooler. Everything is connected and secure, I hope it is not some kind of major issue. Please help and hesitation is not it, its a dead miss and the whole car jolts.

Welcome aboard you guys you will love the MSP and this is the place for all of your questions. Just use that search button cuz people will wreck u if you don't lol. Welcome enjoy you knew rides!!

Would the problem I am having be consider as "fuel cut" It is relatively cold here and it only does it in 3rd gear at 3800 to 4000 rpms thats what is worrying me.

Welcome!!!!

No go and mod the s*** out of the car and jion the dark side!!!

(1) Did it feel like you were hitting a brick wall??? ya know, scaring the ever living piss out of you, making you think that you just royally screwed up your car??? If yes, see (2).

(2) Are you running higher boost than stock (>6.5psi)? If yes, then (3), if no, then (7)

(3) Is it colder than 75deg F with less than 50% humidity? If yes, then (4) If no, then (7).

(4) Were you "half-flooring" or "full flooring" at said rpm range in 3rd? If yes to either, then (5). If no, then (7).

(5) Have you "reset" your computer recently, or are "un-flashed"? If yes, then (6). If no, it really doesn't matter. If you've gotten this far, see (6)

(6) You have fuel cut.

(7) You do NOT have fuel cut. Take to dealership to get "flashed". All it does is advance the timing.
