2010 Mazda CX-9 Touring AWD
Hey Mazda folks,

My father is picking up a 2010 CX-9 Touring AWD on Monday to replace an aging Pontiac minivan. It was hard to let it go because it served us well, but it was time. I helped him with research and after several weeks of looking for a certified pre-owned CX-9, we decided to lease a new one. I will be popping in from time to time to ask questions that may arise, since we're new to Mazda.

For the time being, I'd like to report on the buying process.

The Best:

We didn't have to search. Our local dealership had the right color and exact options that we were interested in.

The Good:

Our sales guy was very friendly and understanding of our needs. We chatted quite a bit about various things in the process. Offered refreshments several times and wasn't trying typical sales tactics, although perhaps that's because we were pretty much set on buying it, assuming the price was right.

The Not So Good:

We got there before 6:30pm and left at 10:45pm (they normally close at 9). They did say it was the end of the month and they just had too much paperwork in front of them to wrap up. Understandable, I suppose.

Price on the final paperwork was $100 more than we agreed upon, but when confronted, they quickly agreed to issue a $100 refund check.

I also did a little research and found that the Mazda customer lease rebate is $1,000... they only gave us $750. I think that may have been dealer cash, so I guess they didn't HAVE to give all of it.

Last, but not least... we made this deal on 7/30. Lease agreement indicates 7/28 and first payment due 7/28. They said it's nothing to worry about. We'll see.

I believe that's all I have so far.

Great site!

Allen K

Did they hit you with a disposition fee?

I don't recall seeing it listed, but I will take a look in a few hours. Acquisition fee was close to $500, but I think that's about average.

There's no disposition fee listed specifically, but in addition to the $475 acquisition fee, there's a $290 fee that is listed as "Other", and I'm not sure what that is. Could be the disposition fee... but not sure why we have to pay that upfront though, since we're not sure if we will return the car or keep it after the lease term. No security deposit listed.

I looked over the lease paperwork this evening and found some information that I missed initially. Sale price of $31,099... even though we agreed on $30,999. Not a huge deal, but I will certainly mention it.

I have updated my original post with the latest information.

maybe my math is wrong but I plugged those numbers into a simple lease calculator (running on my Droid) and I came up with $312.91 a month if you roll just the tax in. Did you roll any other costs into the lease?

Residual Value: 51% 16,939

Depreciation Fee: 253.04
Lease Fee: 34.03
Tax 25.84
-----------
Total Payment 312.91

All of the costs would rolled in, so it breaks down like this:

$33,215 MSRP
$31,099 Selling price (base cap cost)
-$3,000 downpayment
-$1,200 trade
-$750 rebate

$1,246 Downpayment tax, title, registration, doc, acquisition fee, etc

$27,395 Adjusted cap cost
$16,939 Residual value
$327.xx depreciation + $29.xx (9%) tax

Total monthly payment approx. $356.xx

$1,325 lease fee (based on .00083 money factor)
$1,290 sales tax

Total payments $12,840
Total Lease cost $18,019

This is according to www.leaseguide.com/calc.htm

Lease tax in PA is 9%.

The discrepancy I found was $100. We agreed on $30,249, but lease paperwork indicated final price to be $30,349 and they're issuing a $100 refund check. Didn't give me any trouble about it, so that's nice.

I confronted them about the $100 discrepancy and they apologized and promised to issue a $100 refund check. The date discrepancy is apparently nothing to worry about. I will meet with the sales manager tomorrow just to go over the paperwork and make sure there's nothing screwy. I have updated the original post.

Thanks guys!

ok, I thought you put $4200 down (trade 1200, additional 3000) with a selling price of $30,249. Plugged in the above numbers and it matches yours.

You're right, $1,200 trade as well. Missed that one.

Another update..

I stopped by today and they said their computer system had been updated recently and some things were out of whack. It charged $475 acquisition fee instead of $595 that Chase charges, so that was increased. They also added $150 end of lease purchase option fee, which was listed as N/A previously. They did reduce the selling price to keep the payment the same, and the number of payments was 36, now it is 35. We're also supposed to get a refund check for $100.. so I think all in all, we're ok.
