new mazda6 owner questions?

Hello,

i purchased a new Mazda 6 a few months ago with the 2.3L 4 cyc engine and auto 5 spd trans. the shifter has the - M + to manually shift the trans.
I really like my car, but i am confused about what exactly while model i have?
Is it the Mazda 6 - "I" or "S" ???

The engine is a 2.3L DOHC.

Is this engine a Mazda or Ford engine?
Is this a pretty good engine and will hold up well?

I am very good on maintenance. I have 7,500 on the odometer and have changed the oil and filter twice since getting the car.
Would it be bad to use 10W -30 oild instead of the recommended 5W-20 ??

the Dealer told me that this car is assembled up in Flint, MI on the assembly line right next to the Ford Mustang. Is this really TRUE or salesmen talk??

well, so far so good. The engine has great middle to high end pickup, and gets fantastic mpg like 32 highway. very smooth 5 spd trans.

thanks in advance!

For the oil, I would stick to what the manual recommends. Since its getting colder using a 10W-30 instead of a 5W-20 isnt really a good idea.

The difference between the "10W-X" and "5W-X" is at start up. A 5W-X will be able to lubricate better when its cold.

After that during normal driving the XW-30 will lubricate better and a XW-20.

Since the majority of engine wear comes during start-up, it would be best to stick with a lower weight oil for the prefix part. Thats the "XW" or in your case, 5W.

In order to see where your car was manufactured. Look inside the driver's side door sill area. There should be a sticker that says "Made in XXXX". I dont think the dealer was pulling your leg.

Hello,

If you have a 2.3L then you have the "I" model.

I am not 100% sure but I believe that it is a Mazda engine. Or if I am wrong...its a ford engine that Mazda changted up a little.

If you look in your door jam there should be a sticker that tells you the tire pressures and what not, and on that sticker it will say where it was made. If I remember from my selling days...they are all made in Hirogema.

You should keep using the same oil that the owners manual recomends.

From your user name it looks like you are from Ohio. Which part, and what dealer did you get your car from?

"XW-30" does not necessarily mean it lubricates better than "XW-20", it really depends on the flow rate of the oil once the engine is warmed up and if it overheats (and becomes too thin to lubricate or coke up) or not... 30 weight oil will almost always have higher operating pressures than 20 weight and maybe with the expense of flow
