New front motor mount AND Kartboy bushings

Does anybody have both the AWR motor mount and Kartboy shifter bushings installed?

Is this a good solution or is it going overboard?

How hard is it to install the Kartboy shifter bushings?
The only hard part is getting out the stock bushing from the casing as I recall. I had to stab mine to death to get it out I think. Otherwise it's cake. 20 minute job max.

I have both the mounts and the bushings and like both. Although the bushings on their own w/o the shifter isn't really worth it.

I was just about to ask the same question.

Is there a big difference between an aftermarket short shifter and the MSP short shifter?

On the kartboy it's 20% I believe for the msp. Run a search several members have done a great job of documenting the difference. I love how low and short the kartboy has made the shifter and throw.

edit: here is a very good thread on the shifters: check out alberts post it's very helpful as is the kartboy website

Kartboy's website says a 20% reduction on the MSP

However, the bushings with the stock MSP short shifter would work just fine (for those of us not wanting the shifter any lower)... Correct?

Yes, the bushing will work with the stock unit. Like Heathen said, the stock bushing is pretty tough to get out. It was just really awkward to move under the car without a lift. But the bushings alone will be stiff and cause a really notchy shift. I'm hoping they will wear down a bit.

You don't think that the shifter is too far away now? I think that the stock shifter it to far from me as it is. I wish that the center console was about 3-4" higher. I want a short shifter (height) with a short throw, but I'm already leaning over for 5th gear.

it's low enough imo right now, just smoother would be better.

I have been hoping that somone would come out with a shifter that is maybe about 1"-1.5" taller from the pivot, but bent back towards me more and with the longest bottom section possible.

Smoother it won't be. It will feel more mechanical with the kartboy bushings and more exact but smoother no. I have ape long arms so I like it lower. I'm only 5'10" but I swear my arms were made for someone 6'2". If you want smoother look to synchromesh.

Cool...thanks!

I heard clicking from a few miata's, what is that when you shift?

I bought the MazdaSpeed leather shift knob from Corksport and it's about 1" or so longer and it's great! It's leather (so it doesn't get cold in the winter) and it's longer (so you don't have to reach as much). The only thing you'd have to deal with is the gap between the top of the shift bag and the bottom of the shift knob, but a plastic washer fixes that just fine. Something to consider!

I have to tease you a bit. You want that paul walker clank between shifts from FnF and these kits will not give you that. Maybe a few metal washers might but otherwise most people don't want the shifts to be noisy. The kartboy package gave a very firm mechanical and shorter feeling to my shifts which I like.

LOL...I don't want that noise, I was just wonder what it was :P!

Paul Walker wannabe! :p

i have the awr front engine mount and kart boy complete package. w00t w00t. hehe. come to think of it when i get to nopi my car is going to look exactly like it did last year, every mod i did isn't so noticeable. the only noticeable mod since last nopi will be the sparco torino, the shift knob, and some new scratches lol

Get a little silicone spray or WD-40 and lube up the old bushing and you can pop it right out. But yeah that is about as hard as it gets. . .otherwise there is some bending of the heat shield for the short shifter, but that is pretty minor too. Both are great, but I have both AWR mounts in (automatic ones too) and I think it is too buzzy. Guess our engine needed a balance shaft.
