New front bushing = stiffer steering wheel !?

Hi...
I just got my front bushing changed for the new 156A and when I got back behind the wheel I found my direction stiffer than before. I had more difficult turning my steering wheel and that even when I was stopped (dunno) !!! Could the tech have touched something he wasnt suppose to during the installation or its only the new bushing that are doing their job better ? Im thinking more its an error from the tech because its doing it even when Im stopped...

Any tips !?

Thanks

The bushing insallation (if done right, lol) souldn't have effected the steering at all! I put my 156A's in myself, and have had zero problems.

i second that. bushings install should have NOTHING to do with steering... unless he disconnected something to get at the bushings ? lol

Could it be possible that they also made an alignment ?
Somebody told me that Speed here in Canada came with the ordinary Proteg alignement so maybe now I got the Speed alignement... that could explain the stiffer steering wheel (dunno) !?

no,
1) alignment would not affect your steering stiffness
2) alignment requires (usually) laser set to align the wheels. It usually runs $50-70 at normal places, so its doubtful you got one 'free'

My money is on the dip s*** tech. I bet ya he dropped the whole sub frame to replace the bushings. Thats what they told me had to be done to change them, LOL. I'm sure along the way he ****** somethin up.

Like I said, I did mine myself. And you dont have to drop the sub-frame :) I believe TheJohnny did a little write up on how to do it a while back.

I'd take it back to em, and make em fix it!

My write up on how to:

Change mine as well and no problems at first. Now I'm getting this horrible knocking from the front, I've read that it's the bushing mounts that could possibly be loose or even breaking in half......

Take your ride back and explain to them what happened.

They pay for the sub-frame to be dropped. Thats why all the service advisors tell you that the subframe has to be dropped. Doesn't mean we actually do...

what would make it the easiest would be to take off the j-pipe and cats, the subframe, wheels, and end-links. Then your in business........

It pays like 5hrs. to do it. I cut and bent a wrench to make it a very easy job. It takes around 1/2hr to 45mins now. Of course that depends on how sore my shoulder gets (damn calcium build-up).

calcium build-up, you sound like a pair of dentures......

Having the right wrench makes it so much easier.

My steering wheel is definitively stiffer, but my direction a lot better also. Anyway, its not that the wheel is a lot tuffer to turn, but it always seems to want to return straight. Anyway, Ill check that during the weekend and if next monday Im not satisfy Im gonna go back and check that with my dealer !!!

I also noticed yesterday some vibration in the steering at speed higher than 60 !!! What could the tech messed up that I could tell him to check when Ill go back to my dealer? Endlink?

thanks

I just had the front bushings replaced and I notice the same exact thing. The steering is a lot more difficult and now at about 75MPH the wheel vibrates like I need an alignment or through a wieght or something.

Any resolution on this?
