New 2025 CX-5 Owner

:
2025 CX-5 Select AWD
I recently woke up one morning feeling that old familiar urge to trade a car. I owned a 2015 Honda Fit and a 2018 Honda Civic----both CVT cars. If I were to get a new car, it was not going to be an electric car, a hybrid car, or have a CVT transmission. Considering those parameters, it didn't take long to discover Mazda!

This week I traded in the Honda Fit for a new 2025 Mazda CX-5 Select... in beautiful Platinum Quartz Metallic. I had to drive a long distance to find one that came with no options or extras. Once home, I ordered some RokBlokz mud flaps, a complete set of https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned) floor mats, and a few oil filters and crush washers.

It's taking a while to get used to all the knob and button functions, but I'm impressed by the way everything works. The CX-5 handles well, feels wonderful, has tasteful styling, and has this great forum with lots of information!

Welcome aboard, Morgan.

Haven't driven any of the CX-5's of the past couple of years. My 2016.5 CX-5 GT is going strong. Good cars. And I'm sure the newest ones feel typically tight-handling and zippy.

Enjoy. :giggle:(y)

Actually they don't feel as nimble as the previous gen. I enjoy driving my 16 more than my 19. It just feels like it hugs the road better. May be the 17" tires compared to the 19" or that it's a little lighter. Each has it's plusses and minuses.

I very purposely chose the Select trim because it specified 17" wheels with higher profile tires. Our local roads have lots of potholes. I might have gone for a fancier trim level if those didn't include ever-lower low profile tires.

I agree about the 17" wheels. They are probably a bit more robust as well as providing more cushion, and I find the handling is decent enough for me with the 65 profile tires.

How are the floor mats? do they come in any color other than black?

The https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned) are being delivered here February 17th. The several Amazon Vine reviews that gave thorough descriptions and positive feedback convinced me to buy that brand of floor mat. Black only.

So many of the YouTube reviews of the CX-5 refer to it as sensible and even an old man's car.
Having begun my new car purchase experiences with a 1966 MG Midget, I am in no position to argue with either description. :)

post a photo of the Rokblokz installed. I love them on my wrangler. thought about getting them for my cx5.

So many new cars arrive at the dealer with optional factory equipment already installed. I wanted none of that... and traveled a good distance to find one without any additional equipment. After picking up the car, I ordered mats that cover more areas than the factory mats... and mudflaps that appear to be slightly larger than OEM ones. I routinely travel back roads that might prove this to be a good idea.

Over many years, I've seen people modify every detail of their cars... while others like to keep their rides absolutely stock. Gear-heads understand quite well the concept of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I just sold my 2024 Carbon Edition last week because I found it boring, lethargic and uncomfortable. Even with 0% financing, I just couldn't justify continuing the expense. This is after transitioning from a 2004 3 Hatch that I bought new and had 347k miles on. I'm old but maybe not quite old enough to appreciate the CX-5?

I liked the styling and some of the features but the driver's seat being uncomfortable is a common complaint for the generation and was really the deal-breaker for me. I drove a CX-50 Hybrid as an overnight service loaner and liked it a lot more. More comfortable seat and lots of the old Zoom-Zoom but kinda ugly on the outside.

Guess I'll just drive my old Tahoe for a while. 🤷

Youre going to love it im sure you know. I have a 2025 Mazda CX 5 select non turbo and it is the best vehicle i have ever had. I have never joined forum based on the vehicle ive had, but i like this one so much that is why Im here in the first place! the enginnering is incredible in my opinion..but i also made sure i DIDNT get Cylinder deactivation and start/stop.

The CX-5 reminds me of a 1977 Mercedes 240D I bought when it had 400K miles on the odometer. My understanding was that Mercedes designed this one model to be easily serviced by its owner. That turned out to be a wonderful idea that taxi drivers around the world jumped on. Many are still in use. Parts were incredibly cheap (I bought a Mercedes grill for $15.) That car was so comfortable to drive. I could drive it on the interstate all day. It was a diesel with manual transmission. I sold it a few years later for five times the price I paid for it---to a fellow who was determined to fuel it with used french fry oil! I really miss polishing and waxing that car!

I just bought a select as well. And had trouble finding the color we wanted with few options. Most had wheel locks, cargo covers, and other things we didn’t want.
Ironically the one we bought had factory tiny mud flaps, rubber floor mats, and a first aid kit as the only options. Could have bought aftermarket for less, but kept them.
