Hey all...

Loving this vehicle!!
Any advice on tires? I have 17" profiles now and frequently commute the Malahat on Vancouver Island. Kal tire was suggesting "ALL WEATHER" tires which stops me from having to own separate rims and snow tires.
Any thoughts would be great.

Cheers...

Congrats on your purchase, Theres a lot of good feedbacks on 215/50/17 size more correct on the speedo compared w/ GPS. You could go for General or Falkens. I'm still on my OEM's for my summers and might still get 1 season on it, I'm using winters by the way., Those Toyos is crap for the amount of snow we get here in Toronto. I'll probably buy falkens after the summer season is over. Anyways Tell us what you get and welcome to the board.

Got Falkens on mine - came w/it 7,000 miles ago. Already bald (they looked nearly new when I bought, so even if that was 1/2 treadwear, thats only 14-16,000 miles! And they are LOUD LOUD LOUD! Looking at a set of BFG Super Sport to replace.
And +1 on the 215/50s!

I just put Yokohama AVID Envigor's on. They have a 70,000 tread wear rating (Pretty good for a 50 series tire) then again I got about 60,000 km out of the OEM tires which wasn't bad either, lots of people on this forum were only getting 35,000 out of them. I think alot of it has to do with whether or not you have the MTX transmission!

For the occasional snow day Victoria gets, you'll be okay on all weather. Might want to make sure the plow beats you over the Malahat, though.

When I lived in Nanaimo I used them all the time and got by, but I wasn't doing the Malahat! And I stayed off the road during those few snow days.

All weathers would be better for the rainy weather you get, than the snow.

I agree with the move up to 215mm tread width from 205. Goodyear has a line of tires (Assurance?) that are supposed to be all weather.

I prefer winters on steelies along with rain tires on the factory alloys for the other 51 1/2 weeks of the year.

The Malahat sux at the best of times. Can't wait until its 4 lane all the way from Mill Bay to Sooke turnoff.

So now that you've had some time on them, how do you like the Envigor's? I'm leaning heavily towards these. Also, did you go with stock size or do the 215/50R17 upgrade?
