Network help needed

Hi all,

I need some help. Windows XP Pro SP1 with IE 6 SP1 installed. Every update, fix, etc. installed. No virus, no spyware.

I can go on the internet and use every service with no problem. However, my computer doesn't respond to ping request and therefore nobody can connect to my web server. I've done everything I could find on the net: re-registering dll's, ran a winsock fix application, etc. Nothing works.

I can use any of my Internet Services with no problems but nobody from the outside can access it.

My IP is 207.253.67.73 in case anybody wanna check.
Webserver is on port 88 so that I could make sure 80 is not blocked by ISP.

Does anybody have a solution besides re-installation?

Thanks in advance.

If your plugged directly to it, make sure the XP firewall is disabled on your Network Card. If you have a router, make sure the port is forwarded properly.

Some providers also block 80, so you would have to run it on another port.

Yeah, the firewall in XP might be turned on.

Ran a traceroute on the IP address...after it hops to the 'ccapcable' server it times out trying to connect to your PC...so it's not your ISP (unless they block ping requests)

It's got to be either a software setting on your PC or your ISP not allowing you to run a web server.

Thank you guys

You were right on with the XP firewall thing.

The ping and trace now work. Gotta check for the webserver (on port 80)

Thanks
