NEMOC Random BS Thread

So installing that B&M shifter was a b****. One of the rings on the outside of the blue bushing collar was a little loose (and must've expanded with grease or something), so it was slipping off and bunching up (and not going into the cup). I had to use an xacto knife to push it back done into the groove and eventually had to lay my entire weight into the shifter to get it to seat. And the retaining ring was tough to work with, I had s*** autozone/OEM brand pliers that would start to bend when the ring was fully compressed.

Also, 3rd shifter linkage bushing install didn't go smoothly either. Then misplaced the shifter connection bolt (or the shop I brought the 3rd linkage to get the rivet air-hammered out lost the bolt). So another day's delay.

Getting the rig ready to move for a weekend trip to a wine tour with my family this weekend. Need to clean the outside tomorrow and then head out Sat.

Still waiting on the final piece to tow Mia. Should be in by the beginning of Oct.

Job's done! Trans is back in, LSD and all. Fidanza LW flywheel and clutch. Shifts into every gear! Putting the driveshafts back in was A BEAR! They did not want to pop in easily. The passenger one I got into the joint shaft by jacking the knuckle until it popped in (tried pulling it in really hard from the ground that wasn't enough) and the driver's side one, I ended up laying my weight into it like a mofo.

Found the heat doesn't work on the test drive. Hoping it's a stuck-open thermostat or bungled-up heater control cables from the aftermarket radio (the temp control does feel a little funny).

Cars and Copters this Sunday the 16th! Over 800 cars attending. Anyone else going?
can't make it....family coming over, closing the pool and packing...
Morning fellers.

Mark, thanks for signing up! We're getting close to the 30 people for the climb so we'll be setting a date soon hopefully.
cool!
Not as well as I hoped. The class I switched to is tougher than I thought and ditching the slicks slowed me down some. But still enjoying it. Last race this year is the 23rd.
oh Yea, Happy Hump day.
i'm hoping to get to onw autox before it ends next month!

Even though I am not driving a Mazda up this year, I still bought a corral ticket. I'm in a NEMOC and Mazda support vehicle!

Damn right! haha!
too bad no ms6 :( although i'm looking forward to getting a ride in the velociter!

Looking forward to seeing you Chris.
really? jk ;)

good news!
ya, could be a messed up cable if the control doesn't move correctly...you brining the p5 to LRP?
you can bring my tourqe wrench with you too.

happy friday!

Oleg, I will be taking off the OEM RB rear sway tomorrow. I can ship it to you or bring to Lime Rock with me when we leave Ohio, your call.

If you have Freedom T's, please wear them on Friday to support the 25 car as Tom and Derek go for the Drivers Championship, they are leading by 9 points ovr the Kia boys. Also, Pierre Klienubing is in the mix as well too!

Nice Oleg. Weird the heat doesn't work.

Thanks Mark, please bring them to LRP.

Just checked my autox points for the season, running 7th out of 37th.

Off to Bellevue tomorrow for the weekend of wine tasting.

any way I can buy one somewhere?

Ok guys.. I need to throw up an SOS.. I have zero mechanical ability, nor the tools to address the issue.. I also want to get this addressed because I want to drive the car to lime rock, and I REALLY don't want to show up in my honda fit... so here it goes.

The miata is burning oil (no smoke, but I can smell it) and running like crap. It starts well, but I can hear some dry components on startup. I also know my clutch throwout bearing is on the fritz, because on occasion, I'll hear a squeaking noise that will go away when I depress the clutch slightly.

For a bit now, under heavy acceleration/torque the car will hesitate 2-3 times (like a hiccup) before it finally kicks in and starts going. I was going to run seafoam through the engine this weekend, but after smelling the burning oil, I'm a bit gun shy on that. Additionally, while driving today, I was hearing a disconcerting rattle from the engine bay (not like a heat shield rattle) in 1st and 2nd gear while accelerating.

So here are my theories:
#1: I have a shot valve cover gasket. That would explain the lack of smoke, but the smell of burning oil. While I'm not 100% comfortable doing this, I could probably pull it off myself.
#2: I'm VERY concerned about that rattling sound. I'm hoping I don't have bent valves or lifters. I was talking to Maff for a bit, and he said to check and/or replace the tranny fluid.
#3: The car only has 74k miles on it, so I'm due for all of the following: valve cover gasket, timing belt/tensioner spring, crank seals.

I'm pleading ignorance here, because I have no mechanical ability or knowledge whatsoever, so please don't make fun of me.

but yeah, HELP PLEASE! :(

Probably not the valve train. HLAs are noisy, but it's not going to bend something. The way you described it, sounded like the trans. Could be wrong. Hard to diagnose from this far out ;)

I am pretty sure this is a known issue.. It happens with most miatas of the era.. Hell, my MSM did it, Shalon's Miata did it and Korey's Miata does it.

Mine does it too. Of course, my clutch makes a throwout bearing its whipping b****.

Had a great time this weekend. Wine tour was a blast. Stayed in the RV overnight and came back today.

I was thinking about it. Would it be wrong to bring that instead of the Miata?

You know, just bring it to Lime Rock--I may not have the time to install it before then anyway.

Damn it, I don't know any of this :( any luck searching or posting at miata.net?

I think my strategy is to buy the 60k maintenance kit from gomiata, some seafoam, and some trans fluid. That would address most of those problems I'd imagine. I might want to take a look at the catalytic converter too, as that might be clogged up.

The problem again, is that I have no idea what I'm doing nor do I have the tools, so I'd need someone to help me.
