Soooo happy to hear you rescued a greyhound. My cousins rescue greyhounds and whippets. If/when James and I get a dog, we'll be rescuing as well. Congrats on the addition!! Love the name too!!
Whippets need rescuing? EDIT: Didn't realize people raced them too. I guess they are considered "miniature greyhounds". Must be like racing Mini Coopers instead of Stock Cars LOL

We got some grippy stuff for the deck stairs. May have to install a carpet runner in the house though, or nail down carpet shards on the stairs (shudders). I really don't want to ruin the beautiful hardwood...but he is already scratching them up so I suppose a few nails is better than deep scratches.
Amanda talked to the behaviorist at the shelter about it and got a few suggestions, but confirmed that it is most likely the grip that has him scared. Their bodies just aren't designed for walking up stairs, and until they build the confidence to trot up, its going to be an uphill battle.

That's awesome about the dog Chris. My father took in a Katrina survivor. Poor thing gets very scared during thunderstorms. So much so that he actually jumped out a second story window once from his house. All pets need loving.

My parents have a Katrina dog...not verified but the timing is right and he came from that area. He had issues with the basement for over a year, and didn't like ceiling fans...turned out to be a great dog in the end though.
Sprocket is getting better already. Amanda took the day off yesterday and she put some grippy pads on the deck stairs. After some tips from the behavioralist, Sprocket will now do the stairs on his own. She drilled him for an hour giving him treats every 3 attempts. Now we have to continue to make him do it 3 times before we take him in the house. He isn't as confident on the house stairs but that will come in time. Still not sure if we're going to install a carpet runner on the indoor stairs.

Congrats on the new addition Chris! Keep at it and in no time he'll be going up the stairs by himself. My pup's on the other end of the spectrum. He can't go up or down stairs due to age. He'll walk over to them, look down and then go back to the living room and lay down. Now that's summer he'll mind it the most since he always went downstairs to lay on the cool basement tile.
