NEMOC Random BS Thread

You had to buy your own ticket to be reimbursed later? Damn that's a crazy amount for the company to put on you, plus all your other expenses. Back when I was in the corp world they purchased my plane ticket and hotel stay. Everything else was expenses.

Corporate card FTW! I've been to Austria twice now and only had to wait for reimbursement on stuff I paid cash for. Everything else was put on the company CC.

That's one hell of a ticket price!! And to think it's just for 1 person!

Well....Good morning NEPOCers! Scrimmage for the boys and girls today! Playing Amherst NH, they are a really good team. They have all 8 and 9 year olds, and we have no 9's and half the team is 7......Should be interesteing. But fun!

thanks for the info about NH guys, I will be driving up there tonight...and with a trailer so it wont quite be the scenic joyride through the twisties that it is for most of you :)

I called a couple gas stations in the area and all they had was 91 so I guess I will have to fill up somewhere closer to civilization

Morning everyone....one day 'til Friday....

For sale sign is up

Have you looked out the window lately? The sign is in my hatch now and I'm not giving it back.

(cry) Sad to hear and I'll try like hell to make it to the sendoff party.

Morning folks!

Bruce, good luck with the sale, and your ass better be at LRP! Hahaha.

The countdown has officially begun for me. Visa arrived today. Plane tickets are reserved. American Express bill is exploding thanks to that... ($6700 plane ticket... gulp!)

Damn dude....that is one crazy airfare. As others have said, you'll get some very nice points/miles.

Everyone in the Navy is supposed to have a gov't CC for official travel expenses.

Back when I was in the Navy, no one had a CC for expenses. They put you on a ship and you went along for the ride. lol

Seriously though, I never had one but my rate didn't call for any travel.

My PS2 racing wheel came in yesterday. I was playing GT4 all night. I managed to stay on the pavement of the Nurburgring and complete a lap in 9:34 following a pace car. If I left the pavement for even a second I'd have to start at the beginning again. That track is a monster. I'd love to drive it myself someday but I imagine you have to log hundreds of laps before you could ever drive it aggressively.

Corporate card, so it's really not mine... but it's my responsibility. Has to be paid off when the bill comes so it prevents me from doing dumb stuff. LOL.

Yeah, the way my card works... it's in my name, backed by the company. I use it the entire trip, and then submit an expense report. I pay it off when they give me my money, cycle repeats.

i CANNOT handle racing games with a steering wheel like that.....I was epic disaster with that thing. You're lucky to be able to play though, my ps2 doesnt work anymore i dont think and my ps3 wont read gt4 (or tekken)....

that's weird. my ps3 has no problem with GT4

Depends on how old the PS3 is. The 20gb/60gb(first launch models) were the ones that could basically play all the PS2 games. then 60gb (after March 2007) and 80gb machines used software emulation which wasn't compatible with all games.

All new PS3's from the 40gb to the slims do not do backwards compatibility... boo to that.

Yeah, I've got my father-in-law's original PS2. Amanda asked to borrow the PS1 but he still plays it so he gave us the PS2. Scratched my head as to why, but whatever. GT4 was like $5 at GameStop so spending $129 on the wheel was worth it.

As for wheel vs game pad...I was starting to get the hang of the game pad but there is only so much finessing you can do. The high speed license tests were virtually impossible. The earlier tests where you just had to following the racing line around a few turns were pretty easy with the game pad, but going back with the wheel makes them a cinch. I have gold medals on most of the tests except the guided laps and a few 'coffee breaks'. The guided laps are tough because if you try to make up time by braking late into a turn, you'll rear end the pace car.

Currently I'm stuck on the last test of the 4th license. I have to drive a group C race car down a 4 mile straight, slam on the brakes, then go through a series of esses. The car goes 200+ mph and the wheel shakes violently. I always brake too much at the end of the straight, or not enough.

I always played with the gamepad, I got the logitech wheel with the Ps2 and had fun playing with it but I was more competitive with the game pad. I came in 2nd out of 128 people in a bracketed tournament with GT3, I never got quite as good with GT4 (High school took up more time than middle school), though I did set the record over @ 240sxone.com for fastest lap around the ring in an M3.

Fastest lap, using a PS2 controller? Wow. That's impressive. I used to play NFS:Porsche on the PC with a controller. The only problem was it only had one analog joystick which I obviously used for steering. Gas/brake were buttons so on some of the tracks I had to do the tapping technique. I could keep up with people online but I wasn't setting any track records.

I think the controller sort of forces the all-or-nothing technique with regards to gas and brake. You can finesse it, when necessary, but most of the time you go full brakes or full gas. With the steering wheel and pedals, I am smoother with the gas and brakes which usually isn't the fastest way around a track...but it definitely feels more realistic.

damn REI for not being open till 10...i need a new sportsbra!

in other news, it's 8am and I'm ready to hit the road. gotta wait for ryan to get out of work i suppose...

(boom05)better be there sat!(yes)

hello all!

Oh yeah.

Morning all, Happy Friday for those of you working.

Pin came in yesterday and the front brakes are done. After checking the pads, they were about 2/3's worn. But at least they are done. Changed the brake fluid in the master as well. Rotors were fine so left them on and gave them a quick sand. Bedded the pads and pedal is fine. Going for a cruise today.
