I used AVG for a while and really liked it. It was a tad too sensitive and gave a lot of false positives. Even though it had a high catch rate, i noticed Avast! had a better one and gave less false positives.
That describes my situation as well.

Let me know if you have anything named "A360" on your root harddrive (C:/) and I will help you get rid of all the stuff.
Much appreciated. I'll take a look tonight on the C drive for anything with that name but not sure how much help you can be after that. I only have the desktop and due to the virus I can't access the internet to chat with you.
This is assuming you have AVG free 8.0I'm fairly certain the virus I have is embedded all over, including the registry. The machine was running McAfee and Windows Defender at the time. It's my wife's laptop and she does not use it for much, but my best guess is there was a pop-up window with those fake yes/no buttons that no matter what you clicked they execute the virus program. I've since explained to her about these things.
This is also an anti, anti-virus program. Does not allow certain programs to run, or the download of other anti-virus programs. I was able to download programs from another PC and execute them on the laptop. Here's my issue. I can turn off System Restore and launch in Safe Mode, however I can not access the Reg Editor while in Safe Mode. I receive an error message that says I need to have System Restore on. I've tried to access all possible ways into the Reg Editor to no avail.
I installed AVG, but the program is blocked from updating due to the virus. I've tried to delete the file associated with the virus, but of course it just comes back.
Thoughts?
(cryhard)...yup, and i have to stare at it...it's carzy because they love the color so much, but they can't even see it!!Hey Mark, does this story sound familiar?

Reformat is the only option that won't give you days of stress. Keep all your important files on a separate HD or partition at all times. That way you can reformat without having to do too much work. I also keep a folder with all software i have downloaded. It's a quick way to get everything installed quickly in the event of a reformat.

hah! it's the year of the linux desktop!Ubuntu is rather user friendly...
does the computer have a legit windows label at the bottom? for some version of windows? My first thought was to reformat. There are no major applications or data on it and I have everything backed up. Problem is the computer did not come with any discs with drivers, OS, etc. Any ideas?
