No more Hyundai.
Say hello to my new 2014 Mazda3 S Touring. Just driving it home from the dealership made me fall in love with it. I can't describe it, but it feels more natural to me... Like I've owned it for years.

very nice chris, what happened to the veloster?
Thank god. That thing was a piece![]()
You drove it, so you know the fail that was the Failoster.
?? You bought it what, a couple of years ago? I thought you liked it, what happened??
That's the plan. Although I will likely end up driving closer to 70 mph in the CX9. I've towed with it once and the computer said I was averaging 12 mpg but it is usually off a little compared to checking mileage at the pump.Yikes...that number makes me cringe. Take the CX9 to the Glen to compare?
Dunno...I just have a habit of creeping up to the speed of traffic in the CX9. Only time I notice the camper back there is big bumps and steep hills. The 9 is wide enough that I can see around the camper just fine. One thing I haven't figured out yet is whether I should always lock it into 5th gear on the highway. It will drive on flat ground in 6th but I don't know how tough that is on the transmission. I never have that problem in the REPU....since you know...it only has 4 gears and is revving at nearly 4,000 rpm at 65 mph.Why so fast?? What's the mileage at 60-65??
I tend to manually control the shifts when in the hills, on the flats I leave it to the cruise and take it out of tow/haul mode.
Won't go into the final gear in tow mode. Also tends to keep a higher rev before shifting.
Yeah since the CX9 doesn't have a "tow mode" I thought keeping it out of the top gear would keep the motor running a little cooler...but I think I'll let do its own thing most of the time.
Thanks! I drove back and forth to VT this week with the in-laws to see the grave site of my wife's Grandparents. So 5 adults and other odds and ends. I set the cruise control at 70 and noticed two things. First, it does switch on the torque converter when you reach hills as evidence by the slight spike in RPM. It also likes to shift down to 5th quite a bit, more often than I would ever do it in a stick shift. If I lock it into 6th it can usually make it up the hills but it still switches on the torque converter so that had me a little worried. Second, not only does it downshift for going up hill, it also downshifts to maintain speed on the down hills. That annoyed me as I was trying to shoot for decent gas mileage...so I was locking it into 6th as much as possible. I'll have to watch the RPMs more closely when towing. If I see the torque converter turning on often, I'll switch it to 5th and just leave it there.I would, used to do it on the Pathfinder. It had no tow mode, but if you disable overdrive it'll prevent you from roasting the transmission. The big thing in OD when towing is it locking and unlocking the torque converter. It's usually fine on flat roads, but on hills it can be a problem. I'd add a tranny cooler and gauge to keep safe if towing anything significant. With a camper it's not just the weight, but the aero load you're probably going to be worried about.
