i was wondering if anybody has an aftermarket tach hooked up in their car and could offer some assistance with wiring one up. i was going through my closet and i came across a brand spankin new autometer tach and i thought i might as well just put it in my car to free up some space in my room. i hear you may need a tach adapter, and i heard you can tap it in the diagnostics box under the hood. but the idea of tapping into the diagnostics box sounds kinda iffy so i wanted to know if anybody has had any success of wiring it another way and without a tach adapter. any help would help me out big time and i'd greatly appriciate it. thanks.

I tapped mine into the diagnostics port. I forget what color wire you tap but I can go check for you.....

hey dave, do you happen to have an autometer tach by any chance? if so, which wires on the tach did you cut? both the orange and brown? or just the brown? or orange?

you dont need a tach adapter, you tap into the...........s*** i forgot..... i will look when i get off work but it is a wire by the diagnostic port in the engine bay...... and i also forgot which loop i cut..... i will checks that also when i get home..... i know it is not both of them..........

If your spark plugs are controlled by a computer or dont have a distrubitor, then id say you need a tach adapters. Id say probly all of todays cars would need a tach adapter to install an aftermarket tachometer being all computerized.
