Need new trans

Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm trying to reach out here. I need a new transmission for my 2006 Mazdaspeed6 (2006-2007 trans are the same so car year doesn't matter).

Basically the story is my transmission mount was busted, but I didn't know, the car drove fine (maybe because I wasn't beating on it hard) but until it DID start acting up and doing a clunk that's when the shop told me it was bad.

Bought the AWR transmount from PG, got it in like 4-5 days, installed it, then I was feeling what I thought was a grinding, and the car was making a whine from 1500 to 3000 rpm.

People were telling me it's just the vibration from the mount, and the whine is gear whine...... yeah right.

My clutch was getting replaced and when I had the mechanic check the trans for the noise and "grinding" that I felt, he said my output shaft is screwed up.

So now I basically need a new transmission. Mazda wants $2,700 for a new one and $1,900 for a used one with 32,500 miles on it (If it was under 20k I might consider it).

Can anyone help me out? Do you know any wreckage/salvage yards where there's a Mazdaspeed6 (maybe rearended bad with intact front end?) I really need to get one. I definitely can't afford the $2,700 brand new on top of the labor it would cost to install.

If the car was paid off I'd scrap it for parts and sell the aftermarket stuff, but I still owe like 10k on it, plus I like the car so I'd rather keep it (apparently I've got a crappy 1st batch model of MS6, I've had clutch and turbo issues as with the usual TSBs others had).

I'll be checking this thread for email notification to my phone. Thanks for any help :(

Hey Shane.... how reputable is the site for car-parts.com? I found one for $500 with 28,000 miles on it..... Doesn't specify if there's anything wrong with it or not though.

It's basically just a link for alot of salvage yards acrossed the country so you may want to specifically check out the yard its coming from.

I have ordered many things but they came from local salvage yards. I mostly call Maz-max (who also shows up under car-part.com) if I need anything since they have a great reputation in Houston.

Well I have bought parts off of car-part and usually your dealing with a scrap yard of some sort. So the best thing to do is contact the place that has the part listed and ask them a few questions.

Oh for real? Thanks a lot guys.... I'll definitely check out the deals, I mean $500 is good but at 28K miles that's some usage, I wanna call and make sure there's nothing wrong or busted up with it. Especially since Mazda near me quoted 32.5K mileage tranny for $1,900.

Have you guys ever haggled with Salvage yards? I called one in California for 28k and $500, and $220 shipping so $720 total.

There's one local to me but it's 30k miles and the guy said $1,500 for it. Do I let him know that I found a cheaper one with 2k miles less and I'd like him to match it?

Thanks again guys for the car-parts.com site. Found the one in Cali for $500, $720 shipped with 28k miles, verified it's definitely a Speed6 transmission and that they warrant it for 45 days, so if my mechanic gets it and sees it's no good they'll at least replace it. Tried to get the one local to me to go for $720 so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping and do local pickup, but the guy said they likely wouldn't come down from the $1,500 with 30k miles.
