Need new brakes.

So time has come for some new brakes on the Speed6, and I've decided to go with something a bit better than OEM. Now I need a little help deciding with what rotors and pads to go with. Should I go with blank, slotted, drilled, or slotted+drilled rotors? I'm leaning towards the slotted+drilled mainly because of the way they look, but from what I've read, the blanks have better stopping power?

As for pads I want something quite, something that wont squeal like a pig..so im thinking Hawk HPS?

Any input is appreciated.

I'm getting to that point as well. And I've been doing some reading on these forums (There is A LOT of info out there). I'll sum it up quickly.

Getting rotors for looks isn't the best idea. How they perform is MUCH more important. Imagine slamming on breaks going 80MPH. I think I could really care less what my breaks look like as long as they stop me before I rear end the car ahead of me and keep my kids safe.

As for Slotted vs. Solid, how often do you go to the track? Slotted breaks are great for track use since it allows the breaks to release the gas and heat caused by the friction as you drive spiritedly around the track. Solid breaks allow for a longer, more constant (well always constant) contact between Pad+Rotor which does slow you down faster but not by 10s of feet.
The best comment I've seen is this - "Stick with the stock discs. The slotted ones are good in theory but you're giving up contact area for minimal cooling advantage."
I think that sums it up pretty well.

As for pads, there are a bunch to choose from out there. Street Unit, Protege Garage, corksport, CP-e, all have options. There are a bunch of posts out there too that compare them and rave about one or another. But from what I've seen, Hawk HPS's are very good, very quiet, and lower on break dust than our OEM's.

Hope this helps a little!

Thnx for the info, I'm willing to sacrafice a foot or two of stoping distance for the drilled/slotted. But what i dont like about them is the fact that they can crack if the arent cast drilled, as in drilled after creation. And thats a BIG no-no for me... Blank rotors with Hawk HPS pads it is!

no prob.

The cracking doesn't happen that much and usually only happens with poor quality rotors and heavy heavy heavy use.

But probably like you, I'll be sticking with solid rotors with Hawks!

Yea. That is super cheap. I don't know much about KNS Brakes but I know rotors and Pads will cost you upwards of $1000.

I have a full set of Drilled and Slotted rotors I have had them for a while now no problems what so ever and for the Pads HAWK HPS and I love them NO brake dust, Squeaking, nothing I would recommend those for pads. Stop on a dime and get nine cents of change

For brake pad I suggest EBC Green Stuff ... I have those on mine along with my Drilled and Slotted rotors, I love them.

I have the Hawk HPS pads, along with http://brakeperformance.com drilled and slotted rotors on the front of my MS6. I absolutely love them. No brake dust, stops on a dime and NO noise. I fact, I like that combination so much that I just ordered the same thing for the rear even though the are not even close to being worn out yet.

Thats actually the path i went with. I got the drilled and slotted from brakeperformance.com and the Hawk HPS pads. Great set up, no noise, little dust, and very good stopping power. I'm happy with it.

Amen to that good choice my friend
