On Aug 13 I went out for some photos and made this thread http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123751456 and on the way home I hit an uneven surface. There was a clunking noise coming from the RF strut. I pulled over and saw oil dripping from the bottom of the strut. The strut had blown. I had installed the coilovers about 11 months previous.
Here are pics of the hardware itself. You can see the threads and how they were "cleaned off" when the strut flexed/collapsed.

edwin, do you mean to say none of the above have ever had a failure?I guess people should stick to tein/autoexe/jic/mazdaspeed?

this is truly unfortunate...
oh, just did a quick search.....?

Nah, Edwin is still theMAN....no coilovers for this application, which is what this thread is talking about!
agreed ken!i highly doubt there is any suspension part out there with an absolute zero failure rate.
this is incredible. im really concerned now about mine, because mine are always on full stiff pretty much
So it appears the strut cracked at the seam when you hit an "uneven surface," then completely separated after continued use. Sounds like an incredible combination of unfortunate events.
Your first indication that something REALLY serious went wrong was that the leak occured at the bottom of the housing - not at the top where the piston meets the tube. In any case, glad you're ok. Good luck getting everything fixed.

been talking to the head of BC North America. he is very interested in talking to the OP about this.
i sent you my contact info
Yes, the coilover is 2 separate pieces. But where you pointed the arrow wasn't where you broke it looking at the picture in the OP. That is some freakish s*** that happened to you.
i believe they have recommended settings for dampening on the street opposed to the track
even tein..etc doesnt recommend running full stiffness on the street.
