My Short Shift Plate

i like jbarone's shifter plate..shifting is quite easy and extremely fast...of course i have just the stocker to compare to but all in all....major improvement

I was worried about that too when I saw the pic, but I installed it and it BARELY brushes that metal piece. I had my wife shift the car and I videotaped it which you can see at the end of my installation link below. Plus, even if it was rubbing hard, that rubber boot is unbelievably strong.

Jbarone Installation

Awesome video!!! This makes me want mine even more!! Too bad its somewhere in the magical land of in transit lol! I can't wait to shorten the truck lift shift throws!

i love the way JC's looks with that titanium but since thats not mass produced, i had to opt for jbarone's not too shabby short-shift plate.

im guessing the jbarone short-shift plate combined with shifter bushings is probably as good of a feeling shift we will get (with rear mm as well)?

u cant wait? i cant wait till he makes one for the speed 6's, id help him out if i lived in IL.. hopefully we see something soon..(cool) and no the speed 3 ones wont work for anyone that was going to ask haha.

I'm happy to hear you're all liking the Shift Plate Kits.

Do any of you have a Cobb Access Port or a Dashhawk? You'r not gonna believe the mounts I've got for these. I should have the first run of them late next week.

Thanks,
Jamie

I'm having difficulty finding a 10mm ball stud; I've tried Ace Hardware, Lowe's, a local specialty hardware place called Broward Bolt, and Pepboys. I'd rather not order it online as shipping would be more than the price of the part.

Where did everyone else get their 10mm ball stud?

i got 2 from mcmaster carr for 6 bucks....shipped to me door

I get mine in bulk from India, and they are the actual size which is not 10mm.

Thanks,
Jamie

ebay has the 10mm ones in their marine and rv section.

Oh BTW, this is great simple mod. Jamie's looks great but I took the cheap route and had a plate made by someone local based on JamesCH's design. Total about $20 out of pocket.

This is the way the shifter should have been from the factory. If you are on the fence about this one, DO IT!

www.mcmaster.com is THE way to go. I would be nervous about ebay/RV stuff as it could be made with so-called 'gray metal' that might break from poor quality.

I'm glad it worked out! I'd like to see pics of ones people have made/had made custom.

I'd be willing to make 2 or 3-offs from titanium, for the cost of 60ish dollars, though I'd have to take a closer look (and probably get AV status too). I can also chop and re-weld shifter bars no problem (I'm a certified welder, so no worries about quality).

When I got in there and started playing, I realized that with the taller stud I ordered, I didn`t need a plate at all. I drilled and tapped a hole right next to the base of the factory ball stud. I threaded a nut onto the replacement`s shaft to effectively widen its base. To bring the shift arm surface up to the height of the original stud base and provide a flat seating surface for the new one, I cut the edge off a nylon washer to clear the original base. A little loctite, cranked it down tight and away I went. The shifts are short, no interference anywhere and it was easy as pie.
