My new MAF setup + extra pictures

So you don't stick you finger into the MAF or poke around with somethin' for fun when you change the air filter!

Thanks!!

And please guys, DO NOT touch the wind vane, it is extremely delicate.

Thanks for reporting back, I have removed mine as well, but I am taking the Prelude on a road trip this weekend so I won't have time to run it until Sunday night.

What about the gnome?:)

oh and let me add.. the shift into 2nd and 3rd gear during a hard pull is sooo much smoother now, at tleast for my car. i really dont understand how that little thing could make such a difference tho.

Kevin! I just found you buy your sig with the pic of your car. I guess I learned something from YOU for a change ;) I'll be performing open-MAF surgery later this evening.

hahahah whats up shawn... yeah it worked well for me, hopefully itll be the same for everyone else. btw.. just ordered my fmic, the same mbc you got from steve, and the flange for my hks ssqv... as soon as the fmic gets here ill be doing the pvc "piping" and sending out for hardpipes. im pumped.

diffusor removal

did those of you who removed the diffusor from the MAF also reset your ECU upon doing so? I removed mine this evening but didn't reset the ecu and noticed a little jump in throttle response. However, if I didn't know it was done I'm not sure I would think 'whoah! why is my car so much faster!' It's also 95 deg and rediculously humid right now, so that's not helping much (yupnope). I should mention that I have an Injen CAI, stock boost with flashed ecu, hiboost FMIC w/hardpipes, and am running a dual valve setup (one recirc off the hotpipe and one to atmosphere on the cold side if that factors in).

I did reset my ECU. High temps and humidity can really choke a motor though!

EDIT: don't expect to shave a second off a quarter mile run with this mod! :)

Keep us posted man, it is always great to watch project cars come together.... and help when they fall apart!

i know this is a stupid question.. but how do you reset the ecu... just unplug it and plug it back in?

ECU reset: you can disconnect the battery OR pull one of the "ENGINE" fuses off for a while. There are two to choose from (just pull one, no need both): in the fuse box inside or the one in the engine bay. Check the owner manual.

Just disconnect the negative battery cable. Then hit the brake pedal 5 times or so to run any possible stored charges out. Just disconnecting the battery without tapping the brakes isn't usually enough to reset everything, unless you disconnect for a long time.

yup...this purges any charge still remaining in the electrical system.

Diffuser

Well guys, I joined the dark side. I removed the diffuser. It runs A LOT smoother and is a noticable improvement in get up and go. I can't explain why or how, the A/F mix is still the same (rich).

But for what it is worth, if you put if against your mouth and blow, it is restrictive. Go figure. Let's keep this alive by reporting if anyone has any negative effects in the onths to come!

I think the point of this device is to linearize the turbulant air so the vane sees a better represenation of the air. I think by taking this out, the MAF might not be as accurate, but its probably a negligable amount.
