My first dyno!

I've done dyno pulls in both 3rd and 4th gear (some on the same day) and there is little to no difference in the output. I just like to use 3rd gear because it's less strain on the engine.

makes sense.. i personally would prefer 3rd, as i know its better in my car.. i can tell by the feel when i am just driving around..

Technically 4th gear is the closest to 1:1 ratio. On dyno jets you want to run in a gear closest to 1:1
But from my experience, there is very little difference between the 2 gears to really say it'll skew the #'s that much, so 3rd is ok too.

But don't most dyno's take gearing into account? I have a dyno plot with three runs: two in 4th and one in 3rd and they are almost identical when power/torque is plotted versus engine speed.

No, they don't. When was the last time you saw a dyno operator enter in gear ratios on a dyno?

Dynojet is an acceleration type dyno. It uses a math formula to arrive at a hp calculation based on the roller weight. Anything far off from 1:1 ratio the engine torque is multiplied and the #'s will be skewed.

Also, like I was saying the ratios on our car from 3rd and 4th aren't significantly off from 1:1, so you won't see much difference dynoing in either gear. However, 4th is the gear closest to the 1:1.

3rd: 1.310
4th: .97

im not going to argue with y'all, you probably know a hell of a lot more about dynos than i do. i will take your feedback and keep it, when i run my dyno.. that is if i can get the damn car fixed, i will post up and run a cpl in 4th and a cpl in 3rd to see the diff.

Rush, i do have to say im diggin the license plate, lol thats good stuff. And pretty impressive numbers for no tune, not bad at all! looking forward to seeing the end results.

Get rid of the cat lol, i had a shop make me a flanged 3" mid-pipe for about 175, so when inspection time came around i could just swap on the catless midpipe with the catted vibrant midpipe.

Just a suggestion, not sure if you have emmission in your neck of the woods.

Cindy, I just ran my MSP yesterday on a dynojet
and they did it in 4th. I was thinking it should have
been done in 3rd since it seems stronger on the road in that gear.
given a choice what would you have it in?
good #'s though! with the unichip @ 7.5psi, hard pipes,
and an Injen CAI I only pulled a 152whp ... I'm bum'in.
How did your graph look, though? Hopefully not nearly as seizure-ish as mine?

That's one of the reasons why I didn't say anything when I heard they were pulling in 3rd .. also cause I had no clue about the ratios, but like Sam said, doesn't look like it'd make that much difference.

I <3 my license plate .. except for when I get those stupid people trying to sound out the 'MSP' part into some word that doesn't exist!

Yep, we have emissions here .. and they're the only reason that cat is on there. But I'm honestly not that concerned with the HP I'm losing with it in the exhaust system, I'd rather just have it all good to go so that I don't have to worry about swapping anything out. :)

.. Anyone have any ideas on what happened with my 2nd run (the red one)?

Nice numbers, curious to see what the uni+440 will do. Time frame when you might get that done?

Could it possibly be a blip of fuel cut maybe i know your boost is low but maybe the other stuff is really making you run rich, or you just hit a really really rich spot for some reason.

I know that the fuel cut is painfully obvious from the other two runs (you can see where it hits between 3.2 through 4.2 RPMs, give or take) .. but I just dunno WHY it hit so viciously in the second run, versus the first and the third.

Effin' crackpotted car.

thats not too far off, i put down 152whp/185tq with just an injen CAI and a leaky greddy SP2 exhaust at stock boost. with a FMIC, exhaust, and a decent tune you should be up close to 200-ish.

nice numbers rush!

Not too bad of numbers, should provide a good baseline. Tuning should provide some great results. It will be cool to see what you come up with. On my Microtech, I was able to tune another 20hp out of my car! The map I started with was unbelievably rich though.

Also your car looks FABULOUS!

Thanks, guys!

I'm REALLY excited to get my Unichip in -- only thing is that I prolly won't get it done for a week or two after Sam gets it back to me, with finals and then my first summer session IMMEDIATELY starting. Agh.

what gas did you have in the car? what was the temp/humidity/alt?

I think you are going to be a lot happier once you tune, but for stock ecu @ 8.5psi thats not bad!

Finals....summer session......you just re-opened a brain vault I had closed with ridiculous amounts of alcohol......

94 octane .. It was about 60 degrees and I'd guess around 60-70% humidity. My car REALLY hates humidity, so that might've played a small part in making the graph even worse .. but prolly not too much.

please, please tune that car, my eyes hurt from looking at that graph...
I know, I knooooooooooooow! (sad1)

JDM Sam shipped my Unichip out this morning. (cabpatch)

^^ Um. Somehow theses posts are hopping in above 2a_ron and Cyclops's posts. So just .. pretend they didn't. Weird.
