i have been driving my car for a month or so..
and i found that my car stalls from time to time.,.,
it happens very strangely.. i happened about 5 times when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd.. it happens when i release the clutch.. and it have been bothering me alot.. i brought it in to mazda.. and they said they cant find the problem.. they reset the throttle sumthing i dont remember what that was.. and since then it happened 3 times. today when i was turing into my street going home.. it stalled again.. lucky there is no other car at the time.. or else i would have crashed for sure..
it is strange becoz once it stalled when i go from 3rd to 4th... and once it even stalled when i go into neutral and release the clutch..
anyone has any idea why it woul dhappen.. it only happens from time to time.. maybe once a week.. but i am going to bring it in again soon.. coz it was so dangerous.. any help would be appreciated..

wow...i think someone else might have had that problem. good luck with that one, you might have got a lemon or something : \

sorry, i dont really know :(
i *THINK* someone here might have had that same problem but i dont know how they resolved it.

so far there are few things i notice about my car..
1. it stalls..
2. the strange thing about the turbo..
i hope thats it.. i dont want the clunk too.. thats enuf trouble..

I might be able to help if you can answer these questions.

1. At what RPM does the car idle at when warm?

2. If you are on the highway and you push and hold in the clutch, does the car stall?

3. Do the rpms fall to 0 before or after the car stalls?

4. Is the car totaly stock?

1. its around 800 i believe..
2. i havent try that.. i will try that tom..
3. i am too busy trying to control my car.. havent have a chance to see.. coz usually i know it stall when the steering wheel tightens up..
4. yes the car is totally stock.. except an alarm.. but it happens be4 i put the alarm in ..

Let me knwo what hapens when you try out those things.
Also Does having the lights and heater on make it worse?

i dont use the heat much.. almost never..
and no having the lights on dont make it worst.. coz most of the time its day time that i recall..
and one more thing.. the car kinda jerks in 2nd gear around 4000 rpm.. kinda like it hesitate then jerk forward.. only seems to happen in 2nd gear..
i will keep an eye on the dropping of the rpm..

That sounds like a very good possibility. I would think Boost leak.
Jan, you can try sprayin some carb choke cleaner on the intake pipes at there connections points. If any is sucked into the system the idle will rise. If it rises you have an intake leak. Also spray the intercooler incase there is a bad weld or something like that.

haha great... i am such a newbie when it comes to DIY.. hhaa
maybe i will ask for some on this..

It was me who had the SAME problem as you did.
It is pretty sad to hear someone else is having this problem.
BECAUSE mazda canada does NOT know how to fix this problem.
They 1. changed my TPS, 2. replaced my entire engine with a new one, 3. replaced the PCM (computer on board)
And guess what? No resolution.
After one month and 10 days, the dealership gave me an option of a Full money back refund OR a new replacement MSP.
I chose a new MSP and have not stalled seen or felt a stall happen. Cross my fingers.
The problem you describe happened to me every time I hit boost around 3500 rpm and depressed the clutch. The rpm's would drop to zero and stall the car. Didn't matter which gear I would be in. Yes, this is a safety matter and Mazda should be aware of this that ANOTHER car is stalling.

Hes right, the best thing to do is call customer service and have them file a complaint and do not let them pass you to another dealership.
Does it stall instanyl or can you shift quick enough so that it doesn't

By the way there is another person asling about a similar situation. That person actualy works at a dealer and was asking for a customer becuase their service department couldn't figure it out.

it happens when i release the clutch..
i dunno if it matters how long i engage the clutch.. but i dont think it makes a difference.. it just happens .. for no particular reason.

i am recalling in my memory if it happens around that rpm range..
i think i will have to test it out myself.. safely..

by the way..
can u tell me where u live.. so that when i talk to the service manager i can mention there is such a case.. and he can check with mazda canada..

i dunno.. because its fun to drive..
i still love it even if it has these problems..
well .. every car has their own problems. its just a matter of luck..
