My amp died!

Okay, so I guess this was more or less expected, but weird all the same. I've got the 4ch 75w Tsunami 440. SO I'm driving with embarassingly mellow music (Jill Cohn) at below-conversation level volume when suddenly I've got nothing (My sub's out at the moment while I glass as well) SO My deck's still playing, and looks fine, and my sub-amp's lights are on, but none on my mid/high amp. So after dropping off my friends and returning home in silence, I re-connect my rear speakers to my deck, and they're fine. I then immediately check the fuses on the amp, blown... all the connections, everything's still perfect. I then actually pulled up my carpet and checked all of my wires, and they're all fine as well. So with everything off, I go to plug in a couple new fuses. POP! *GRR* I guess I've heared the warnigns about these amps being possibly problematic, but I've so far been running for quite awhile with NO problems whatsoever. I just find it odd that it finalyl gave out under no real stress, just kind of randomly....

Fortunately this gives me every excuse I could possibly want to get a new amp. I've got an e-mail in to Ben at eD, long shot, but maybe they'll work me a deal on a Tru in place of my tsunami..??

yea if its blowing fuses, there's something wrong with it..sux..yea i guess thats a good excuse for a new amp, lol.

well, in case all does not work out and you want a fix, cant beat www.kbaudio.com
they fixed my nightmare for 62 bux shipped :)

good luck with what ever you decide to do.

lmao, now THAT is the funniest thing i've heard all day:eek: a tru amp that puts out the same amount of power will cost at least twice as much at the tsunami amp. i'd start looking for a new amp. but first i'd disconnect the speakers and RCA's from the amp and see if it stops popping fuses. if it still keeps popping fuses, open the sucker up and see if you can visibly see a problem, like somthing burnt or loose.

Tried disconnecting everything but power/grnd with no luck. and yea I'll pull it apart tongiht actually. Talked to the Avionixx guys and they'll fix it without question apparantly they're good abou tit, and apparantly they're pretty thourough, so any pissues I might have come across will hopefully after the fact be null and void. so at least I'll have a not too worked amp to sell to a friend...

fortunately I've got an old pioneer 100x2 that I forgot I had laying around. so atleast I've got somethign to get me by. And yea the tru amps are a bit spendy for my visa a tthe moment. I've been sorta intermittantly working at a stereo shop and forutnately I've schmoozed a couple of reps so I'm gonna put it to them and see if they'll hook me up a bit.

So I popped the cover and couldn't immediately see the problem. Wound up literally sniffing it out (the thing REALLY stinks like electrical toast BTW)

SO here, sort of bottom left-centersh, you can see the white strip scorched between the 2, well whatever they are. I was underthe impression that they're power supply units of some sort, but someone else was telling me they're heatsinks... either way. they fried, as did the circuit board around the general area. I'd dig further, but I'm hoping to get warranty work done, and fear I may have already done toomuch...

At anyrate. I've got my backup amp in my car nw *sigh of relief* it's SOOO damn nice to have music again.

those are diodes. they are connected to the heat sink, because they are what gives off excessive heat. it'll be an easy fix, hopefully, and even if it wasn't covered under warranty you could probably get it fixed for under $50. hell, if you've got a college or technical school nearby see if a student will fix it as a project for school and hook you up;)

AH, I'll send it an anyway. might as well as long as I've got a backup. peace of mind and such. Besides, the board looks a little toasty as well. And I guess there's a couple other thigns they wnt to go through on it... Thanks for the info! always nice to know the anatomy.. *L*
