MSP Turkey: FACTS

Have you listened to the videos posted by 505zoom, with the set-up after removing the turkey? It makes the normal HKS SSQV sound. If we pushed the boost up a couple pounds it would be even more pronounced.

If this truly is compressor stall, won't everyone's turbos die relatively quickly? Or does the low boost level/small turbo mean that its less than ideal, but not particularly damaging at stock boost levels.

There have been no issues of surging with our stage 1 FMIC and our CAI set-up.

Sorry Jack, but for the first time ever I'm gonna have to disagree with you. The sound that most of us are getting is for sure comp. surge. Check out the whole thread if you have time, and check out the progression of things. There was plenty of evidence to support this. I had plenty of surge with your FMIC and the injen, and it wasn't untill I went to a dual valve setup, that I made real progress.

The low boost, coupled with the fact that it's a ball bearing turbo means that the reliability is not impacted in such a negative fashion. However, over time it's still not good. Besides...I'd rather have a set-up that's safer than one that *just barely cuts it*, seen. Just the engineer in me...and a thrify broke ass one at that!

Wow, this is great info...

With all this testing you have done, have you tried to recirc both BOV/BPVs?

Maybe this would help with the sluggishness you speak of, with the metered air venting to atmosphere.

And if that is the case, maybe 2 stock BPVs in parallel would work (you know, for us broke-ass-poor people).

Any reason this wouldn't work???

is there any reason this wouldnt work? And just to clarify you are experiencing sluggishness in your current no turkey setup 505? any other adverse side effects?

and also just to clarify, the compressor surge isnt serious enough in our situation to where we would have any thing to "stand on" if we went ot mazda and said "here is the problem, all msps have it, it causes this to happen, this is the fix" and hound them and petition them or whatever like with the hesitation until they issue a TSB to install a new pipe with an additional flange and an additional bpv/bov?
:)

fascinating read guys, even for someone who was only able to understand half of it

Hrm........well i guess if we could prove that even with the stock airbox that this backpressure compressor surge was serioulsy bad for the turbo in the long run, we would have somewhere to stand. Someone should call calloway and just ask if backpressure on the turbo is bad.

Cuz even with the stock airbox we have all heard it, well me anyway......at first i would think it was the tires squeakin or somethin...

i was just thinkin and.........im not so sure 2 stock BPVs would be any cheaper than a HKS since mazda can charge whatever they want for their turbo components. and also, mazda supposedly will only sell turbo components if they are for replacement of those on a mazdaspeed. and i heard a VIN along with the part it is replacing are required in order to get the part so you might not even be able to get one

You can just pick up a relatively inexpensive Bosch valve or any other brand you want. I persoanly will keep my stratmosphere valve and get a Greddy, probably...but one you're setup with this dual setup it seems to be that you could use just about any BOV/BPV combo.
