I am on B15. The recall you mentioned is for the pre cat.

The problem is, about 3 months ago my pre cat broke and the pieces got sucked into the engine so now I am burning oil. The dealer says he'll replace it but they have to wait for Nissan to give them the go ahead.

My situation is this, I have had this car for a little over a year and I have 14K miles on it and it is stock, engine wise. I have spent so many weekends at the dealership for stupid problems along with all the time I have taken of work to go down there to see whats going on. One problem I had, I had to go in the back and help the Tech. fix because he was stomped.

Don't get me wrong, I think Nissan makes good cars and that I propably got a bad one, but I am 31 years old and I have a job were I travel alot. Sometimes my parents drive my car when I am not in town, I cannot ask them to check the oil and put up with other stuff that the car has been doing. I shouldn' t have to, its brand new.


P.S. I was thinking about try to get the 2003.5 MSP. Did Mazda fix or change anything other than the cosmetic stuff.

omg, a spec v thread, and no rant from daemos. Holy s***!

Both are nice cars. Looks is a preference thing. IMHO the sentra is too plain looking. Still a nice looking car, but the MSP stands out more and is more aggressive for sure.

Specs, and performance. You can play the magazine numbers game all day. It basically comes down to driver, and road conditions. Each car has it's good points/bad. Drive both, decide then. Personally, I find the Speed a far superior car. Better interior by far, much better sharper and confident handling, and don't even compare the stereo's. Although, the Nissan does have criuse, and a factory moonroof and isn't as expensive. You get what you pay for I guess.

Is your Nissan dealer a bunch of clueless morons that disrespect it's customers??? How about the Mazda dealership? Something else to think about

6th is overdrive...better for on highway and saving gas. He'll downshift every time he wants to pass something. That point is well um pointless. That being said, I wish the MAzda's had a 6th gear as well, but only for highway driving purposes when you get sick of hearing the car rev so high. I like the sound too, but after a few hours on the highway, I'm wanting that 6th gear BAD. Does nothing for performance, but I bet our cars would be better on gas.
 
2 months ago I traded my spec V for the MSP. The spec was/is a great car. I (trying to not be biased) think my MSP is faster than the spec I had. I've done nothing with the MSP and had intake and exhaust on the spec. I autoxed the spec and had my first autox in the MSP yesterday and the MSP will hands down win...at least with me driving. Just my 2 cents.

Fella's just pointing out how $450 dollars can get you more horsepower than a turbo system...I will race any speed!!

It's always fun to show big mouths how nitrous can be just as good!

I can get you a N-tercooler..and you will be blowing doors off of stangs..and wrx..without having to bump up the boost!!

DONT BUY ONE!!!! I was an owner of an 02 red spec v. Went through one engine because of a ring seating problem, transmission is a nightmare, the paint SUCKS, the steel is weak and dents very easily, handles relatively poorly, even compared to my new stock P5. It is a car that feels like it was put together quickly by a backyard mechanic. Just my 2 cents.......
 
I just traded my 02 Spec-V in for an 02 Protege 5. I also am a salesman at a local Nissan Dealership. I have had no problems with the Spec-V though, just got tired of it and needed something more "practical" and better looking. :)

Not to thread jack, but- "any speed" :)?? Where in NJ are you? I'll have my MSP in Middletown, NY from Thursday until Saturday :D ..

PS- N-tercooler??? Unless it uses nitrous injection, it is not making more power than additional boost, the stock IC isn't robbing that much HP at stock boost.
 
acidbbg i am pretty sure that just an intercooler wont even get an msp owner close to a wrx maybe a v6 stang but not an gt or above. with that engine and the boost that its running from the factory you probably wouldnt break 5-7 hp to the wheels whith an intercooler.
 
Those of you who are getting catalyst pieces in your cylinders it is because you are downshifting. Because the Spec V uses a different type of exhaust gas recirculation it gets into the cylinders. The protege recycles exhaust gas through the intake manifold whereas the Spec uses vacuum pressure in the exhaust or something to that manner. Anyway the fix for this gentlemen is a head. No cat=no pieces in the cylinders not to mention a healthy 25 Hp gain. This is a summary of the recent issue of SCC

The dinky stock MSP intercooler is very small..and by getting a FMIC you will see better gains..and if you use a N-tercooler w/ it you will see great gains!!

Haha- hows it going? The stock IC isn't the greatest, but it isn't the worst that I have seen come on a stock car and it is in a decent location compared to others I have seen also. I can't believe they claim that much of a gain from sprying onto the IC- I can see if you are pushing it beyond it's limits and it is heat soaking, but if it that much on a normal-temp IC, that is impressive. When I said Nitrous Injection, I was thinking you were spraying into the intake stream before the IC to cool it and get the HP gains from the nitrous :).

As for the Mustang & WRX thing, I slowly pull on late model mustangs from a roll and I have beaten my friends 14.4 WRX both from a roll and from a launch :).

How much PSI are you pushing? Do you have a rough estimate on HP Yet..The way i figure it..Is with a 50 shot..and intake and exhaust..i should be pushing close to 160 at the wheel...but i am not sure..there aren't many dyno's in NJ..


Come Race me..We will see who has the last laugh..I will even bump it up to a 75 shot for you to see how bus lengths we will be apart!

Another list member I deal with put 223whp down with a car set up very similar to mine. You say a WRX is faster than you and I just got done saying that I beat my friends 14.4 WRX both from a roll and from a launch and you still want to "threaten" me with a race? I went 14.5@96 before the exhuast and FP Reducer kit. Damn man.. You totally took that out of context... Again, I was just trying to have a normal conversation.

How far are you from Middletown, NY? I'll be there Friday night and wouldn't mind meeting up, racing, whatever. I don't talk s*** to the wrong cars, I know what to race and what not to- a lesson you still need to learn :). Again, there was no reason for your reply.

224 hp..damn..Well i don't think I will win..but i am alwayz up for a challenge..your car sounds like a beast...I have beaten non tubo'd wrx..it was an all motor!

Well, you snapped back saying you would beat me by bus-lenghts and such, so I responded :).. As for money racing, this is not fast and furious, I race for fun mostly, but when people get cocky and challenge like that, I will only race them for $$$ - like the guy with an 11.70 Nova talking s*** about my talon and calling it Japanese s***, etc.. I had to take $1000 from him :).. Hell, not to mention that with that car having over $25k into it, I wasn't going to race for free :).. I just got pissed since you were trying to be cocky with the bus lengths and cam corder comments :)..

I will only be in Middletown from tomorrow afternoon until Saturday some time. I go down there every once in a while though, so maybe some other time.

haha- blow an atery- I should be careful, I will be 30 Friday, have to start watching my health lol..

PS- 224 whp is far from a beast, I gotta take you for a ride in the 487 whp talon :).. The MSP is just a toy in comparison :)
