MSP in DS

Jeff,

How long would it take you to do the Koni wet buid on my stock shocks? I would want the double adjustable option.

It would take 5 days for UPS ship to you and 5 days back. I just need to know what time is in the middle.

ive already read the thread about autox ruling, but does a bov really put you in SM? i used to run the dual setup but recently relocated my maf so i can no longer simply unplug the vac line to my bov and run just the bpv. im gonna miss my days in DSP...

Wet builds are going to take a while (ETA 4 weeks), just because we have a lot of work in que. If you wanted to put a deposit down and we can put you in line. I could use the ones that came off my car and just charge you for the core deposit. As soon as we get yours, we can refund you.

I think your SOL. I would download the SCCA Solo2 rules and read through them just to make sure.

Yes a BOV puts you in SM. Why? I have no idea. SP class now allows for boost control so there is no reason why a BOV shouldnt be allowed.

4 weeks isn't bad. I was just making sure I could get them before September. How much would you need for a deposite? I appreciate you offering yours because that will work out a lot better for me. I'm using the stock rear shocks because they are the only legal shock for a DS MSP. Can I send you mine after I get the rebuilt ones? That way I won't have the car unusable for 6 weeks.

Thanks,
Brian

Ya, we would need like a $200.00 refundable core deposit and you can resend yours after the Double adjustables get to you. We would require a half down deposite of $1100.00

Differential

I broke my differential over the weekend!(headshake

I was running a test and tune on Friday up in Oscoda Michigan before a weekend long race and killed the Differential while launching out off the start.

89,000 miles as of last week so I guess it lasted longer than most.

I'm guessing your's was the original one and not the revised LSD?

Brian:

When you do your diff, find the how to on this site and go all the way to the bottom to find the instructions on how to reassemble the shift linkages! I lost a day and a half trying to do it with only the top roll pin out. Removed the bottom one and had it done in 15 minutes.

You'll also notice your new diff hooks up better because of the new grooves in the cone faces that transfer the energy across to the non slipping side!

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip Morris. Fortunatley I didn't have to do the work myself. I've worked out a sponsorship with a local shop and they did the work for me. I also bought all my parts direct from Mazdaspeed, which cut my costs a bit.

I got the car back two days ago but I haven't messed around at all to see how it hooks up. I'll find out soon enough though. I'll be in Peru Indiana this weekend for the National Tour. Wish John and I luck. This weekend and the next (Milwaukee National Tour) will be the test to see if we will need to do the Koni wet build. That's all we can do to the car to tune it further. I've done everything else I can.

I've started a MSP "DS Build" post on a Word document and will post it as soon as I get some more info and results. There's a lot of MSP owners that are interested in DS but don't know where to find the info.

Later,
Brian

I'm running DS, but in the street tire class. Mostly because I can't afford race tires, I don't think I am ready to graduate to race tires, and I am scared of getting pwned by the ITRs.

EDIT: Answering questions without posting again so I don't get accused of post whoring.

DS Mods:
Well, I am actually illegal in DS right now, but no one in my region is going to care and I plan on reversing the illegal pieces bit by bit.

1. I have 17mm positive offset over stock, legal limit is 6mm. I didn't even think about it when I bought the rims, so I might sell these and get some 50mm offset wheels next season.

2. AWR front end links. Legal in stock class but I have no clue if they work or not since I never really ran with the stock end links.

3. Stainless brake lines. Illegal in stock class. I am debating if I should pull these off and go back to stock lines. I'm due to change brake fluid next season, so I might go back to stock lines, especially since the SS lines look like crap now.

4. Falken Azenis 615. Great tires for street class, but lacking for DS when everyone else is running R-comps.

5. EBC blank rotors and Greenstuff pads all around. Much better than stock.

6. -1 degree camber front and rear. I'm sure it makes a difference, never knew the alignment specs when I started.

7. AXR clunk fix bracket. Illegal in stock class, but I'll be damned if I have to put up with a design flaw from the factory. If I was going to run nationally I would remove this and replace the stock bushings a few times a season.

That will likely be a rule change next year when they realize how stupid it is.

Has there been a proposal published in fastrac about that? If not, I doubt you'll see a change for next year.

Doesn't bother me that much as I plan to keep running in DS street tire. I've felt what the car drives like with exhaust, FMIC, A/F computer, etc and I can say it drives more smoothly and predictably in stock configuration.

(doh) I just noticed something else that's illegal for stock class. I pulled out the subwoofer a long time ago and it decreases the overall weight of the car. Woops.

lol yep. Unless there's instructions in the owners manual for removing it ;)

Well I'm not going to win the class this season because I'll only make it to about 50% of the events. If I win next season I may decide to put it back to 100% stock so no one complains .... or I'll just do what everyone else does and cheat a little till someone complains.
