MSP getting some more upgrades!!!

tekkie said:
nice ;) do you have to buy the wb controller in order for that to work?

Yes and no, I bought the package that comes with the gauge, sensor, and controller.

what 1/4 time do u hope to run when properly tuned @ 16psi??

Mid to low 13's.

that would be awesome to see an MSP run that!! good luck!!

Shouldn't be that hard. 16psi, all the bolt-ons, tuned PCM, and some slicks up front should do it. I have a feeling that a few of us mspers are about to break well into the 13's.

word man the aem wbo2 looks good next on my list . 13s will happen with your setup (thumb) right behind you hahahahahaahh

the aem looks good, BUT i have heard from other sources that the aem does not read as rich as say an innovative wb02 does. I believe the aem only reads to 9 afr while the innovative reads richer.

I dont think our cars will ever run richer than 9, but when tuning something like a standalone with a very rough base map, being able to read that rich will drfinately come in handy.

I went with the innovative after persuasion from my friends about this info.

Other wise it seems like a very good unit and should suit your needs well.

ive been to traverse city it is awesome.

In regards to my work, i do everything myself. The only thing i havent done is assemble my short block. Eveything else i did myself.

Being forged is like being stock' i am still afraid of detonation and all, but it will be better when i get my haltech wired up and stuff.

You are correct about the AEM not reading below 9, but I think we disagree on the need for that. Even if I had a standalone, I would not want to see the car running below 9. If I saw that the A/F was below that, I would lean it out immediatly. I guess I'm just trying to say that I wouldn't care what the number was if it was below 9, I would lean it out untill it was something above 10.

Almost done man, just a few more finishing touches. I hope Nick does get a lot of business, I think that his product has been needlessly bashed by a certain member of this board. That, and all the talk of piggy-backs not working on the msp has kept a lot of people from tuning their cars for a reasonable price, and also kept Nick from selling more of his tuners here.

Well I will be saving up for the tuner. I figured that you would run faster then a 13 with all the mods that you have done. What altitude are you at? And what kind of hp do you expect with 16 psi setup? Sorry if you already answered these questions.

We will see when I get out on the track, all I can do is guess for now, and that doesn't do anything for anyone. I am at 7200ft, but the nearest drag strip is at 5500ft. They give out conversions for sea level there at the track, but I'm not sure if they apply to FI vehicles yet... I will find out before I go.

Again, all I can do is guess about hp #'s, but after my last dyno runs I will be dissapointed if I don't hit 250whp/275wtq.

AEM works great, tuner still working perfectly, I'd say that this project has been a huge success for me and my speed. I will install my hosetechniques kit tomorrow, and the injectors on thursday for sure. That will be about it for awhile, until the mod bug bites again.(laugh)

I would be alot more inclined to buy the unit if it were 'mostly' plug and play...with a harness and all. My time is somewhat limited and, although I have a degree in Electrical Engineering, I hate chopping up ECU/PCM wires :D

I'm sure you'll let us all know how things are going with the unit.

Peace...(hippy)

You don't need no stinkin' harness.;) You have one more degree in electronics than I have, and I made out ok.:) Seriously though, the install is not that bad, it can easily be done in a weekend.

Update:

I am even more impressed with the unit than I was yesterday. It works super good, and my car is running great. This is how the speed should have run after the flash, if not straight from the factory. I can't wait to see what kind of control the secondary injectors will bring into the equation.:D I'll post another update after the injectors are in on thursday night or friday morning.

Awesome, glad to hear it. Can you give any more details over how it feels compared to without it? Big difference? Can't wait to hear about the secondary injectors when they come.

It just feels smoother now, less pulsing when I punch it. I am sure it will only get better as I continue to dial in the settings.

BTW, to all you guys that were worried about it, the PCM IS holding the tune!!!(thumb)

Hmmm, im in the same boat, my track is at around a mile high. So I am going to be curious to see what you run. Im glad the car is running very smooth. That gives me hope that we will finally be able to tune these cars the way they were supposed to be in the first place.

im very anxious to see how it will run when the auxillary injectors go in.

So how did you know what values to type in for the fuel map? Did Nich forward those to you or are you not dealing with fuel right now since the new injectors arent in yet?

Was there a decent base map or did you just have to keep adjusting values until your car ran right?

How long did it take you to tune up the fuel and ignition map correctly?

I am controlling fuel with the stock injectors for now. Nick sent me a mazda file from a turbo P5, and I made the initial adjustments while talking to him on the phone. It did not take long at all to get the map set up for the speed, maybe 20 minutes. Now that the initial setup is complete, I can share the file with any of you msp guys that get the mpi tuner. You will then only need to fine tune the fuel tables for your car and elevation, which is very easy to do... especially with a wbo2 gauge. It is very easy to see what is going on with the program, and only took me about 30 minutes to learn all of the different variables.
