MS6 / CX7 / MS3 Top Mount Intercooler Upgrade

So Mazda's claim of 274 hp (stock) is BS/marketing hype or just measured using a different method? All this is really depressing me if it's true, seeing these much lower HP numbers............

all manufacturers make claims of crank horsepower. dynos read the horsepower being made at the wheels, where parasitic drivetrain loss has already occured. for example, a mazdaspeed protege is claimed to make 170hp stock, yet on the dyno you'll see numbers between 140 and 160 depending on the car and the dyno, which brings me to...

I have seen numerous dynos with stock numbers anywhere from 220-230whp....Never have I seen or heard of one that low....209whp....that seems pretty fkn low guys....So If I buy this Top Mount and I dont see 20whp gains than you will refund my money right? I will glady dyno my care with the before and after.

something needs to be stressed greatly here; every dyno is different and every vehicle is different. there were mazdaspeed proteges that rolled off the line pushing 4psi stock, some pushing 9psi stock. there are plenty of variables that easily could throw off any dyno run on any car. i don't think anyone has addressed the fact that, even though this car is not full time AWD, it must be dynoed on an AWD dyno.

what is important here is that on our test car, proven gains were made from what that car dynoed stock. regardless of what the number is, that dyno shows a measure of consistency that will carry over.

if you buy this TMIC and are for whatever reason not happy with the result and you return it to me in good shape, i will personally refund your money.

Rather than absolutes, people should concentrate on the relative change. Anyone can argue all day about which type of dyno is better, or about testing procedures etc., but all things being equal it is the relative change between successive dynos that really matters. That is why it is important to dyno before and after each mod to see that it does what it is purported to do.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Captain KRM. I was just curious as to why there seems to be such a variance from car to car and your explaination enlightened me.
I believe my concerns stemmed from an earlier/diff post about 'Lack Of Power' and the fix (flashing the bios of the ECU). I think it was a Mazda recall fix. Anyway, from the responses on that post and me finding out from my dealer's service rep that mine has not been updated with the 'newer bios fix' plus the varying results posted on this forum by owners that have had the fix installed, I will be taking a wait an see approach. (ughdance)
I believe I was instructed to have a boost gauge installed so that I could more accurately measure what my turbo was doing. Also, to check for a drop off in power after 4500 rpm possibly being an indication that my car might need the ECU flash fix......... again waiting to see here.

I appreciate all you 'Motorheads' input and am really enjoying this site. It's been really fun so far, can't wait to get home from work to login an check the site.:)

Thank you for the quick response....I can appreciate and understand what you said...Im just a little sketchy because this is my tuner car and dont want to get the shaft.....Im also not very familiar with a whole lota vendors but after doing some research and reading other threads and I have found that you seem to be one of the best.....So I will be ordering this product from you....but not yet...In about one month......The winter season is upon us and I have choosen to park the car for the snow falling months. I will install it as soon as I get it but the odds are pretty good that Im not gonna dyno it till spring....Im sure that everyone here is familiar with AMS....there shop is outside of Chicago and they are the only one near me with an allwheel drive dyno..... anpparently the folks over at CPE are working on some sort of piggy back plug and play system for the Speed6 and they are pushing for release I beleive sometime in the spring.

Hot on the heels of our FMIC upgrade for the Mazdaspeed6 comes our TMIC solution for the entire DISI turbo engine lineup. We have developed in partnership with Anatoly (CustomMSP) a complete replacement TMIC featuring a thicker, larger, bar and plate core with custom endtanks and an all aluminum design. The intercooler also incorporates a custom fabricated air diversion plate to increase air flow to an already enhanced design. Final production pieces and dyno numbers are scheduled this week with a final price expected to be less than half that of any FMIC kit to date. Based on our experiences with past SMIC upgrades on past vehicles, we expect great gains from this unit even on stock boost.

** BUMP UPDATE - DYNO GRAPHS POSTED: 20 WHP GAIN / 20 LB TORQUE GAIN!! **

Is this the same intercooler that is made by ETS that other vendors are carrying? It would be a pretty foolish move to continue referring to this TMIC as "our" if this is the case. It looks extremely similar to the pictures of the ETS TMIC that I have seen elsewhere. I don't think ETS would appreciate you labeling this TMIC as your own. If it is not could you inform me of the differences that this intercooler has compared the the TMIC made my ETS. Thanks.

This TMIC is labeled as ETS on ProtegeGarage.com, where it is being sold.

it was labelled as ours because Anatoly and I, through our own time, money, efforts and supplies helped ETS develop this TMIC as well as test this TMIC. forgive me if his work and my investment in terms of parts and money does give us some pride and feeling of ownership in the product. as the fabricator he is allowed to sell this TMIC to whomever he chooses to. there is no mystery at all and this is well documented to those not simply looking to stir the pot. Thanks.

Great looking product/deal! KRM thanks once again for helping hook up the Mazda community!

Honestly I would suggest everyone leave the choice of TMIC or FMIC up to the individual customer. Please start your own thread if you choose to stand on a soapbox and preach.

thanks for the support.

as i said in the other thread, i don't mind discussion of competitive or different products. the user who made the post above was banned along with thier primary usernames because as suspected, it was made by a former AV here who posted misinformation and slander in order to discredit Anatoly and I as is standard practice on that vendor's behalf, proven time and again.

Anatoly will tell you, I really wanted and had orginally understood this product to be exclusive to ProtegeGarage / CustomMSP. ETS was approached to produce the TMIC by us, and I purchased the OEM parts from mazda when they became available and sent them to ETS to assist in developing the TMIC replacement. After the product was complete, Anatoly installed, demoed, tested and dynoed the TMIC to get the results we did. In contrast, the vendor who seeks, in futility, to defame us contributed nothing to the design or development of this product.

ETS made the decision not to be exclusive on this product, myself being aware after the initial threads were made. I respect this decision. ETS has reimbursed me for the supplied parts and I am very appreciative of that gesture.

I expect this thread to stay on topic. Further fabrication and trolling is not acceptable.

Are there any reviews from buyers yet?

And has the second size been produced to clear the hood vent better? another dyno with that with stock first then it 20 mins later?

all we are selling now are the 3 inch models. our experience so far tells us there will be little if any difference between the 3.5 inch and the 3 inch in terms of dyno results but yes we do intend to dyno it as soon as we can.

The final version will look alot neater right? those are some pretty inconsistant looking welds.... i'm sure it performs well it just dosn't look super amazing
