It's all fail after that.

The moral of the story: Start out slow.

That big white box of $hit up there had a four banger and a 5MT. Surprisingly, that tin can on wheels took an insane amount of abuse and kept on ticking while hardly even seeing an oil change other than replacing the quart that leaked out each week.

My 91 Tracer had the REALLY crappy 1.9L SOHC mill. 88 HP to the crank y0!

EDIT: for the record, that car sucked so bad I can't even find a decent picture to post on google images LOL

and look at that fuel mileage!!! Holy cow...I'd forgotten it got that high mpg.

There's supposed to be a new Fiesta coming out in the next year or so, very similar to the Mazda2. That could be the answer to the OP's question.
:p

My first was a 2.8L V6 S10 Blazer, god I loved that truck. It wasn't fast though, that's for sure.

Yeah... agreed to all them about buying a beater.... I've had all these before my MSP...

1. 1989 Toyota Camry
2. 1992 Toyota Camry
3. 1991 Honda Accord
4. Back to the 92 Toyota Camry (the same one)
5. 1994 Mazda Protege
6. 2003 Toyota Tacoma & 1987 Dodge Colt Vista
7. 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege & 1987 Dodge Colt Vista

LOTS of previous experience. Take your time. I learned to speed shift on the 94 Protege and that has, in turn, made me a better stick driver. I bought it for 100 bucks from my bro, got a Kartboy SS and a PRM Cold air intake and it was quick.

wow just wow. wish my parents would spend that kind of money for a ms3 or a ms6. i got my p5 when i was 17 and now i'm 19. a kid wit a performance car dont match. sorry to say but i think ur better of wit a beater car if u wanna live longer. in high school there was this dude who was a yr younger than me(16 too at the time) and had a rsx. he totaled it and got a rx-8 after. i'm surprised he didnt total that yet considering he "drifts" down tanatalus<-look it up on yahoo.

whatever ur choice is, best of luck. just dont destroy one of these magnificent cars wit stupidity and ignorance.

Alright, I understand that I should start off with a slow car. Right now I drive a Yukon. My dad told me that I would have to drive that for a year and not get any tickets, and then when I turn 17, I can get a new car. I understand that the mazdaspeeds have a lot of power for a young kid. But I was just wandering which cafr would be better. I was just planning on getting a car that I could auto cross and just have something to work on in college. I am fortunate that I can even be looking at these cars, I do not think that I am going to be able to do anything to them. So I was just wandering which was an all around better car.

if you are not going to do anything to it and you plan on auto-xing go with the 3 hands down...the 6 handles like a pig wallowing in the mud

In that case, it all depends like was originally said...I would say the MS3 is smaller, sportier (sp. check), and about the same speed for less weight. However, the MS6 has AWD and is probably a little safer. Preference dude. I think the Speed 3 gets better gas mileage too.

:) Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders. Plus you know we'll all give you noogies if you mess up a nice new Mazda. :p

I'd go with the 3 if you want to autocross it and are set on buying something new.

But think about something used too...easier on the 'rent's bank account!

two words:

Honda Civic.

or an N/A Protege... Hell, if you're looking to autocross, I'd love a 1st get Protege LX / Escort GT / Tracer LTS with the BP engine for H-Stock / STS / FSP. I'll probably end up with one when I decide to stop autocrossing the miata.
