MS3 vs. 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT-4

yeah, that doesn't make sense. the mazdaspeed3 is a great looking car IMO. i've always liked the look of hatches and wagons though. i do think the dodge looks gross though. however, the srt-4 is a great looking car IMO. they gave up the srt-4 for this? lame.

Umm... I like how my MS3 looks, but I do think the Caliber is ugly. This is a free country, and I won't call anyone hypocrites for saying they like or dislike fat girls. It's all in your mind. *^_^*

Well atleast the MS3 is a rarer car then I'm sure this caliber is going to be. Everytime I drive around my town I always see at least one SRT4 driving around because it's cheap money for high performance, samething the caliber is going to end up being. There has been one other mazdaspeed 3 around here and I know the kid personally. MS3 to SRT4 Ratio 2/38 (notcool).

As for Specs:
Horsepower : 300 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque : 260 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm
Redline : 6400 rpm

Top speed : 150 mph(estimated)
0-60 mph : 5.5 sec.
0- mile : 14.0 sec @ 105.0 mph(estimated)
60-0 braking distance : 120 ft(estimated)
200 ft skidpad : 0.88 g(estimated)

Curb Weight : 3200 lbs(estimated)
Overall length : 173.8 in.
Wheelbase : 103.7 in.
Overall Width : 68.8 in.
Height : 59.9 in.

Cheap speed is fun. That neon Srt-4 will still beat a mazdaspeed 3 stock on stock though, no matter what it looks like. In my honest opinion though i like the way they Srt-4 neon looks. As for the calibur Srt-4, i'm neutral towards it. I'd buy it if i drove it and liked it enough. Just wait till it comes out and try it out. Then see what your impressions are of it.

IMO, the SRT4 NEON is a stripped down fugly unsafe little rocket, and based on what the caliber looks like inside, it will still be that. I would take a MS3 over that thing anyday, better interior, better crash test results, WAY better looks, limited production, better warranty, Did I say that MS3 looks WAY better? The regular three is at the top of its class, and the caliber is at the bottom.

Boy the comparison tests are going to be heated when this car comes out. I certainly think the MS3 is better looking than the SRT Caliber, but I don't think the MS3 is a great looking car. The MS3 is also Cheap speed but with a touch of class there the Caliber seems to be missing that same level of class. But if the build quality is good and the chassis is competent and it manages to be cheaper as well, then the MS3 will finally have a worthy competitor.

These next few months are going to be fun indeed.

Finding a cheap american car with class is going to be very difficult. We tend to value raw power and bigger, louder, gaudier. Our low end cars reflect that. In all honesty, I was considering a SRT-4 when they announced the Caliber version. (the neons were just gay.) I wasn't nuts about the scoops and wings though. The thing just screams PULL ME OVER and lacks any kind of stealth. It did however have the hatch and storage I needed. Unfortunately for them, they stalled on it and the MS3 was released. Cleaner looking, sharper looking, and full of utility and plenty quick enough for a daily driven beater. After driving a stock caliber, the interior and handling just dont compare to the stock 3's. They have a lot of catching up to do to successfully compete on all fronts. Hell they lowered the output to 280 from 300 HP. I'm sure there were control issues. I'll take our extra torque over their extra HP any day though.

very good point, what good is the extra power if you dont have a solid way of putting it to the pavement?? extra torque ftw

as for the overall comparison...in my opinion, the only thing the caliber wins on is price. Build quality of dodge is only so-so, they lack the creature comforts the ms3 has, the caliber's style is very blah, and after watching 3 of my family's chrysler built cars blow up at 100k miles, I will never be purchasing a chrysler product again

dodge's dealer upgrades are way more than mazda..its a shame yea scions have so many little things u can add to the car more appearance than performance

Very true. I have an xB, and it is not very quick at all...

Very True again...

Excluding the 30~40+ buying the xB for its hauling prowess. *^_^*

Very True, but it is still not a very quick car at all. I'm looking at doing the turbo wagon mod...

That and there just isn't any power to get out of the 1.5L. Trust me I know! Full exhaust, cai, header gave you maybe 10hp.

I thought about that, but now I think I'm just going to forget getting any power out of it. Not worth it. It's time to do a turbo wagon mod...I heard Subaru makes some nice turbo wagons...(naughty)

I would take an MS3 over the Caliber SRT-4 any day...

IMO, the SRT-4 isn't that bad looking for a cute-ute. That said, the only reason they're compared is because of their similar turbo'd horsepower.

The Caliber SRT-4 will be designed for those who live their life a quarter-mile at a time just like the Neon SRT-4 was. I'm not one for drag-racing, I think it's dumber and more simplistic than NASCAR, but whatever floats your boat.

The MS3 has a slightly different purpose. Mazda's whole "zoom-zoom" idealogy; an engaging drive. Spirited handling and vehicle dymanics and power that's matched to the chassis, not just power for the sake of power, etc.

I'm not being a fanboy, just calling it how I see it.

Two different cars with two different purposes, IMO.

You know, tilted at an angle and lowered, its not terrible looking (peep)

^ So if it was mounted incorrectly on the back of an old-school tow truck, it'd look hAwt... LOL.

Exactly.

20K for the SRT Caliber and 25-30K for a tow truck and you've got yourself one bad ride!

It's not bad looking sitting right side up in my opinion, it's just too much LOOK AT ME for a daily driven vehicle. Kinda like the park benches on the back of evo's and STi's.

Dude, those wings on the EVO and STi are for safety concerns. Without them generating all that downforce, the cars are so fast they would acheive escape velocity. Plus in a pinch they double as great ironing boards.

Late for an interview and your suits wrinkled? NO PROBLEM if you're driving an EVO or an STi

Now that's utility!
