MS3 Gas milage?

Jinpak the mileage is easy to calculate without the computer.

1 - fill gas tank
2 - reset trip meter
3 - run until you have a lot of miles -down to a quarter tank of gas is fine
4 - refill the tank - see how many gallons u added - ie the same amount u used up from last fillup
5 - divide miles driven from the trip meter by the number of gallons u used - from the current fillup

Got it?

I hear that the mazdaspeed CAI adds about 1 or 2 mpg.

worst i got was probably 18-19 and I average consistantly around 22-24 almost all highway
^as per quote above ... i don't pussy foot my s*** ... lol

Not bad for a car of this performace.

Hope you aren't going by the trip comp because that thing is wrong as ****! Mine says I'm getting 19mpg but that's a lie

I have found that if there is no traffic you get better mileage on back roads than you do on the highway. The car runs above 3000 rpms in 6th on the highway which means the turbo is going pretty good. Gas mileage seems best around 1800 rpm. I do about 60/40 highway/city driving and usually get around 21-24mpg. I get this number by manually dividing out the miles I drive and the gallons of fuel used. I wouldn't trust anyone's response if it is based solely on the mileage computer. It consistently reads 3 mpgs too high and last night when I filled up it told me I got 25.5 mpg when in reality I got 21mpg.

You'd be surprised how ridiculously efficient 6th gear is.

What you fill up is what you use...

I'm looking at MS3 MPG and insurance figures as well. There's one 40 miles away from me... 2007 GT Silver w/ 6600 miles going for $20k or a brand new Sport for the same price from a dealer selling at invoice.

Any insurance figures folks?

Depends on your insurance, and you. Your record, your age, your gender.

I use mine as a daily commuter. I drive 160 miles/day on open, two lane roads at 70 - 80 mph. I consistently get 27 - 28 mpg. I calculate my mpg. The mpg that the cars computer calculates is usually 2 - 3 mpg high.

I was driving a Honda Civic that got 36 - 38 mpg. The MS3 is definitely not the most economical car to drive, but I now look forward to driving to work!

with my spirited driving i get like 25 if not more city and easily 30 highway.

if you drive slow and lug the motor you actually get worse gas mileage. you have to find the medium and then its all good. i spend $23 to fill the tank at half. I love my car, gas prices will go up, but at least im not driving a prius lol.

FWIW, in New Jersey, it'll cost me about $100 more per year to insure a brand new MS3 than it does my '05 Acura RSX Type-S, which will be about $1,400. This is with a multicar discount, 31 years old/married. I imagine if I didn't have a multicar discount, it'd be upwards of $2,000 a year, but then again, New Jersey has the highest car insurance rates in the nation. I'm insured with USAA (one of the lowest priced out there).

GhostMercury the miles per gallon that you are quoting are they measured/calculated or coming from the trip computer?

I'm still spot on at 20.9x mpg for almost every fill up. Calculated the normal way, dividing mileage driven by amount of fuel used.

The onboard computer says something like 23 mpg.

I only drive 7 miles each way to work, on the way in i drive city and the way home freeway @ ~80mph. Calculating the old fashioned way i get between 21-22mpg. My Integra would get 24-25mpg on that same route. I've only had my car 2 weeks so I havent been too hard on the car and I havent done a full tank on the freeway to compare to.

The worst I get with exclusively spirited city driving is about 12 MPG. I average somewhere around 18-19 city/hwy, and get about 24-25 MPG when driving exclusively on the highway.

With the mscai and ets 3.5 and corksport full exhaust it has been on the rise. On the way back from the racetrack it read 25.9. wow
