MPI tuning

ah ok, that was another thing i was wondering! is there a way to reset it back to blank or if i bought a used one will it still have the map that the previous owner had? and if it does still have the old map with the laptop be able to read that map? so i have somewhere start with the tuning?

thanks

If you need a map i'm sure one of us here can provide one for you. You can clear the map on the mpi so it doesn't have anything on it. You'll need to do some calibration as well when you first get it.

well the reason i was asking is because the previous owner had a setup and very similar to what i have now. so i was thinking that i may possibly have a good starting point!

me and the other guy that is gonna help me tune are deciding on to start with just the 6.7 or go ahead and shoot for 8-9psi

Thats cool, I'd highly recommend the extra injectors because Tim says you will have an easier time tuning it.

I doubt your TM will give you enough fuel for much more then 5-6psi. xtra injectors is DEFINATLY the way to go IMO. Nick hasn't made a TM to give more fuel for higher boost in a LONG time, so I'm pretty sure your's will not be able to handle it, but who knows, maybe the first guy had it for a while.

Also, if your battery will not hold a charge and is taking a dump on you, it can potentially mess your map up. I had this happen to me in the beginning, the battery was s*** so my map got screwed up because it wasn't giving a constant voltage during crank and messed up the MPI settings. A new battery fixed it and I have never had any problems since.

Like Moeed said, just draining it won't do anything. I let my car sit for over 2 months and the battery was DEAD as a door nail. I charged him up and the car started right up and the map was still there just like I left it. So just killing the bat is fine, it's when the battery is taking a duke on you is where you can potentially run into issues.

Tim,

He has a brand new Opt. yellow top. The MPI in JEPH is the one your installed and tuned.

I know that. Who has a new battery? I have already talked to Jeph man, try to keep up.(thumb) I was just putting the info out for info purposes in reference to brealmp3's question, since I have experienced it. I am not sugesting Jeph's issue is a battery issue.

Since you're on here, do you know if I changed anything in Jeph's TM?? I just counted the resistor I know doesn't work and I have 24 out of 25. I know I tried one in emilio's, so I don't think I messed with Jeph's TM.

Oh yeah, the map I tuned was not the map in there when he got his car slick, so someone changed it, but that should do what he is experiencing. Also, how did it work so long then all of a sudden this pops up? Doesn't make any sense.

You rebuilt it because it was an older version that would dump to much fuel and buck like crazy. You put it like your setup.

So then it does NOT have the "bad" resistor in it. Did I do it at your shop or take it home?'

edit: wait wait wait, I would not have built it like mine if the buck was a problem, because mine is an older one that does buck, because it provids a lot of fuel. I think your wrong here. If I rebuilt it, it would to make it easier, not like mine.

When did we do this? I have only built 1 TM since I've been in my house and that was emilio's. I think when I came over there, I was in my house then.

Also, see the edit above

well the only reason i was asking is cause when i goto car show, out of my friends i have one of the nicest stereo systems and we always use mine for the radio and stuff. so i just wanted to make sure that, if the battery died at the show, i wouldn't lose my map.

but about the tm, i do have the older version that is known to buck, so would it still not be enough for more than 5-6psi

I can't say without knowing how it's built. All TM's buck when you use the purple wires, so that doesn't give me what I need.

So if i have someones to tune that has a buck can i just remove the purple wires? I have one to tune and he has an older one i think, it bucks pretty bad.

edit: He got it used

Lower boost MSP's should not require the purple wires, if they have the more aggressive O2 clamp. You can always try it, but I don't know how high of boost it can handle.

If not an MSP and it doesn't have xtra injectors, you need the purple's for fuel
