Hey guys,


My motor popped saturday night. Only 52K on the car/motor. Got it towed to a dealer who wants ~6200 for a new motor.

Not sure what happened...could have been a bearing, bent valve or the classic oil starvation problem. I was in a hard turn and the oil light came on, three seconds later the motor shut off and the car came to a stop. So oil starvation seems likely, however I had been hearing a very audible noise from the engine that day and had plan to take it in the next. There was no smoke and no pop or any noise, she just stopped.

So, can anyone find me a used motor with low miles for a lot less than 6 grand?

Btw, I am in a new sentra rental at the moment and it sucks. Insurance isn't even paying for it even though I have rental rembursement. Because there was no accident a rental is on me.

So your engine never started back up?? I know it may sound dumb but computers can shut down your engine before it breaks. 6200 for a new engine is crazy.

I found a 2.0L mazda engine for $1,000 last week, I'll see if I can dig up that site again.

get a fully forged engine for around 2grand, that's what i would of done, if i knew about it when i blew mine up.

If you don't mind, what kind of $$$ did you have to use to get it? I assume its probably just an Elise, since the Exige is a bit harder to find.

I really don't know yet. With relatively low miles on it and only a few small problems Its gonna go for other mp3's with 100k+ miles. Right now the plan is to take off the major mods and part those out.

As soon as I know more about everything I'll let everyone know.

I won't say exactly what I am paying for the elise, but its basically fair market value. Jump over to a lotus forum or check ebay for prices.

Well, Got the used motor from Ken. Can't say its pretty cause it just ain't but it runs very smoothly.

The dealership however F ed up the car. The broke and endlink and didn't replace it, lost a rays lugnut ($120 for the set), some how spilled used motor oil all over the back glass and on the trunk ( this after they told me they washed it TODAY).

The car though, is great. I honestly wish I wasn't buying the elise so I could keep the mp3. It's too damn good. I honestly don't think even the elise is this good.

Damnit, why am I selling this car again?!?!

Well,
Start driving to work this morning. Got 10 miles down the road and the temp guage shot up. Pulled off, coolant was boiling over the over flow tank. Towed back to the dealer who want to make me pay for the AC that worked when I first brought it in. They said the over headting was probably caused by an air bubble in the coolant as it checked out on the pressure test. Hopefully they wont break anything else and I'll actually get to drive the car. Didn't make it to work until 12 this morning in the rental I am not paying for again....

The MP3 is definately an incredible car. I doubt there is much else like it. Its very unique, hidden gem. We now have a 02 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro and its still nothing like the MP3. The way it drives, handles, just peer fun. I don't know for myself if any other car will ever give me the same feeling that the MP3 gives me either.
