Moving to Miami Area

I live in miami for 19 years and now i'm going to gainesville for school and to get the hell out of miami..I miss miami b/c of my dad's restaurant...no pizza like my dad's in g'ville =\

I told my mom that I love her and all, but I'm not going down there to visit. You drive around clutching the steering wheel and HOPE that no one tries to kill you. Dont even get me started on the crime. My mom's house has been broken into at least twice. She was followed home in a car, then robbed at gun point. They tried to steal my parents car, but I caught them - when I was a teenager. They stole a couple of friends cars just for the rims and speakers then torched it. Another friend went to a FUNERAL home because his brother died, he came back out and someone took his system and rims while leaving the car on blocks! No one speaks English.... and even I'M Spanish damnit and got mad about it. The housing going up about $50k a year seems like. The list goes on.....

We're moving to Port St. Lucie in the next few months which is about an hour north of West Palm Beach. Things there are quiet, no hussle and bussle. Housing seems to be expensive as hell there too. But no crazy drivers, low crime rate, everyone appears to speak English... lol... hardly any traffic, low population, and beaches are 15 minutes away. Can't ask for more... well, other than lowering the priceing on houses. The nicest houses are on average $200k with homeowners assoc. of $100 a month extra. Thats just crazy.

My brother has a house in a country club in Ft. Pierce. The value more than doubled in the less than two years he has liven there. It's nice and quite their, but all there is is rednecks and mexicans.

Me and my wife made the move from Miami to N. Georgia and love it. 163k for a 4 bedroom 3 bath w/ finished basement, two car garage and a driveway can hold 10-12 cars. homeowners association fees are only $300 for the year. and the house insurance is only $100 more than that for the year.

give it about 10yrs..i bet west palm, port st lucie will be crowded like south fl. i hope u guys are planning on buying a house in port st lucie because its cheap right now, then turn it around and sell it a couple years down the road and make a gang of money!

Thats the problem. Our 1700 sq ft 2 story house with an office is going for $154k up here. Down there EVERYTHING is pretty much $175 or more EASILY. Doesnt even matter what the neighborhood looks like. Here's an example:

This house is $149,900 2 bed/2 bath

116393395.jpg
This one is $152,900, 3 bed/2 bath

121546562.jpg
Corner townhome $162,000 only 1000 sq ft, 3 bed/ 2 bath

121752534.jpg
2bed/ 2 bath ... something.. condo maybe ??? $169k

damn thats cheap!! where is that? port st lucie? something like that further south would go for at least 250k

ewwwee really? I'm seriously starting to think about robbing a bank if I dont win the lotto when I move down there. lol I'm not paying $160 g's to move into a 2 bedroom shack. I'm sorry... apartment living for me I guess.

Even if it is a 2 bedroom shack for 160 g's, your better off buying than renting. You'll be able to sell it for 200 g's by the end of the year.

My biggest mistake in life (besides not finishing one of the three colleges I attended) was renting. If I bought a house instead of rent, even just a few years ago, I could've sold that house and pay for the one I'm living in now in CASH.

food for thought.

u dont wanna get an apt!..with an apt you dont get anything out of it, wouldnt you rather live in something that you can sell in the end and make a profit? with an apartment you just make payments for as long as you live there and get nothing out of it except a nice place to sleep.

Hey, I have a house NOW and I WISHED that I had originally bought an apartment. That way I could've already BEEN in Florida. Now I have to wait to move because I can't just up and leave like I would've been able to do from the beginning. And with an apartment, I'd have no maintenance, association fees, and rising property taxes, I'd at least have a pool, a place to jog and nearby playgrounds for my kid. Plus I'm only going to be walking away with a few thousand and not like $10k or more. I've only had it for 3 years. I'm sure if I'd stayed longer, I'd have more to work with but the thing NOW is... getting out of NC and selling this b****. lol Again.... for the here and now, I'd like an apartment. No huge commitment, gives me time to look for the neighborhood and right home and lets me get settled in.

it really depends on the person, for some an apt is a better option, others is a house
i'll be moving out of my parents house and into my own apt witin the year, there would be no point in buying a house on my college income

true..but u know if u bought a house down here for, hmm lets say 200k....in about 2 years you could sell it for 300k..thats an extra 50k a year! but ur right, i guess the responsible thing to do is get an apartment and wait to make a logical purchase ;) did ghost ever find a roomie yet?

yeah dude, houses r exploding down here, 3 of my neighbors have sold and moved within the last month, they made a killing and sold in days
