my a/c stops working with the fan @ 3...

Yeah mine did something like that, it is a "common" problem. Is that what you are experiencing lordworm? Try switching the fan levels and see if it will start working.

haven't really heard of much in the way of AC problems before. Have you checked that clutch wire etc to make sure that is all intact?

If you go on protege5.ugly.net and look at the manual there is a page in the control systems section that shows the relation chart and it'll show you which sensors etc effect the AC. If anything I believe the TPS may be your culprit.
Clutch is fine..i can "override" the relay by shorting the AC Relay out and it works fine....

i'll check out the sensors and see what the go is... i have adjusted the throttle butterfly to stabilize idle...might be playing havok with the TPS...

cheers

There is a pin on the ECU that you can wire the AC condenser fan to come on based off the Microtech just like the main fan. It should be called out on the last page of your instructions packet.

I actually have my fans both wired to come on with the ignition and run non-stop. A little worse for alternator load, but the improvement in cooling is considerable.

Can I just wire the fans in parallel, so they act as two main fans?

when Iturn my ac the car dies. I need to get my car to steve to have it tuned right. the guy I took it to never saw this ems and it took him awhile to get around in the options menu

options and pump settings are the biggest b!tch with the ecu....
get it to someone who knows what they are doing such as steve and get him to give the tune a good going over :)

Oh man we did some tuning yesterday, the car runs so much better, it feels real nice! And this at like 6-7psi, occasional 8psi spike.

Steve, do you have a 440cc map you could email me? I'm running the map from #43 but it is just so far off from what I need... I've messed with it enough to get it to run decent but once I get on the gas my AFRs drop below 11 (wish my wideband would show what exactly it is, so I could know if I'm at 10.9 or 8.9, heh).

I've also found that nice pump1 lurching you guys were talking about on page 8. Fun fun! haha

I'm almost contemplating taking the 440s out and putting the stockers back in, running the map from #43. Even if I cranked the boost up to 9psi or so, I'd probably be fine. My fuel economy would like me too. Right now I'm at about 100miles for half a tank of gas, lol. And that's rounding to a nicer MPG ratio :)

I don't have 440 map at all... we've just used the 550 map bumped up by 20% usually for most people. I just haven't had access to a car with 440's to tune myself or get a tune from someone that i trust yet.

Mark, If you bought your Microtech through me or Ken it should have at least one 550 map on your laptop adapter.

Newb question but how do you access the maps on the laptop adapter? I recall seeing one setup screen that said NSN_550 in a bunch of different places but I don't think it had to do with maps.

the maps are "hidden" on the start screen. First screen you get when the thing logs on. You have to press the right or left arrows on that screen and then you will see it start saying save Memcal #1 or Load memcal#4 or whatever... to save a map you go to Save Memcal #x or whatever and hold down the M key.. to load a map find the screen when it says Load Memcal #x and hold down the M key.... that's it!

Sweet, I loaded that map and it is MUCH smoother! I bumped the mixtrm up to the 23-25% range and it seems pretty good. It is still rich but hopefully it is much closer to where I'd like to be. Cruising is a lot smoother like I said though, so that is great :D

I did some playing around with the Microtech today. I took a log and found it interesting--I'm hitting max duty and couldn't rev past 6300 or so. The log is attached. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think.

I've got some questions. Does my boost look spikey? Why are the output numbers recorded in the log higher than the ones on my map? My car still runs rich and doesn't get a reading once you hit WOT. I took each boost level down a few points on all RPM maps but apparently that isn't enough.

Man I wish I had wideband logging, haha.

edit: I see my log file wasn't attached... invalid file. I attached it as a text, just rename it to .MTL after you download it.

Sounds like you really have the injectors cranked up a bit... you'll have to keep pulling the rich areas down a few clicks at a time until they start to come in line.. just remember to keep the curves smooth looking and no major changes map to map for each rpm.

Sounds like a plan... I have a date with the dyno on Saturday. Any tips? I'm hoping it goes as straightforward as it is in my mind :)

should be pretty straightforward... you are having them do some tuning? every tuner has their own style, and they will always know "best" so any suggestions I have he/she likely will not want to hear... Have them tune boost to about 11.5 to 11.8, or if you want to go aggressive, then go to about 12.1-12.5, more power, but more likelihood of det. They should also in theory work their way through each individual vac level from -20"HG all the way up into boost, and across as many rpm's as the car will accelerate through at that vac level. You do that and then the tune should be pretty solid... then timing is advanced until either det is heard or you see the power curve start to drop (and then back off a few degrees ). That's about it!

Steve

ya, i still haven't joined the darkside. i'd like to see what i can get out of the stock block/head before i boost. it really isn't a wicked na build, just your basic bolt ons and ems. 12:1 cr and itb's would make for a wicked na build.

maybe look into running staight water with water wetter. 98c seems kind of warm. i have yet to see mine past 88.

it seems a little weird that it shows your boost drop to 4 from 10 earlier while your still wot and then rise again to 10.

Yeah it is really finicky, some days it just goes BOOM-BOOST and other days it builds up very slow.

The temperature is high but never goes past the normal mark on the stock gauge. I just got done wiring my A/C fan to a switch so I can turn it on whenever I want. Hoping that helps. I may try a solution more like you suggested otherwise. Turbos run just a wee bit hotter than NA setups :D

Looking forward to seeing your numbers (and mine!)

Dyno'd... 200 wtrq; 180whp @ 5500rpm then it tapers off (above 6k it drops to near stockish numbers!!!). I'm definitely having some issues that need to be sorted. I'll post the logs later.
