Microtech EMS

just like steve said....

my car has the microtech installed and it idles beautifully! we just have to work out a few issues...but even with it pig rich right now, when we blip the gas this thing sounds super peppy!!! the gauges are unreal... it takes the stock o2 and gives you readings that look similar to wideband readings, gives stock air temp, water temp, vacuum... almost everything...

the install was SUPER EASY! the hardest part was getting the wires into the engine bay (that damn rubber grommet is a b****!) but besides that, it was easy... put it this way, if you can wire up a car stereo, you can do this. took me and dave about 1-2 hours to get installed, we started late at night and with dave constantly giving me false advice (in a humorous way) it took a little longer, but it was both fun and educational.

the car idles perfectly now and all we have to do is TUNE... so hopefully by this weekend it should be fully up and running, back into daily driver mode! we didnt have the correct maps for n/a use so its taking a little longer than it should, but thats what test guys are for...

ill post up when we finnaly get things done, i took a few pics but they were in my garage, and it was at about 12am, so i doubt they came out that well...

UPDATE!!! We figured out the problem with the altenator and it now works perfectly fine! Today Steve will send Keola some base maps to get the car in the ball park and it will see the road tonight. The car still idles just needs fine tuning and it's ready to rock. All I can say is LINUX ARE YOU READY FOR ANOTHER OPTION FOR ENGINE MANAGEMENT! ;)

My engine is going to get pulled out this week and sent to the machine shop so hopefully it will be ready in the next couple of weeks and we can see what kind of real numbers I can finally put out. It took a couple of years but what the hell, it should be worth the wait!

Dave

its about time there dave! hahaha, jp :-P

its up and running and i cant say anything bad about this microtech. i have never used any other types of engine management through my experience with the microtech i can say that this thing is unreal! i cant wait to get the maps in and get this car running on the road... only bad thing is i have to pick up a laptop now and spend more money! damnit...

thanks steve for all the help and patience with me and this micro... it will all pay off in the end, especially when everything comes in and the REAL numbers come!

Wow....It is getting hard to figure out where to spend my tax return. I already am leaning towards the Haltech, but I would love to hear more about this... Yall are not using an air temp sensor right? Dave, hit me up on MSN, or by phone later. Just doing some info gathering to make an informed choice.

It is using an air temp sensor... the stock one. The correction is VERY minor... you will use a MAXIMUM correction factor of about 4% on the air temps. The Microtech uses all stock sensors.. no sensor swapping of any sort necessary. We replaced a few sensors for the stock computer though with resistors to "trick" the ECU so that it thinks the car is running all hunky dory.

Linux... I'll try to catcy you on AIM tonight... I'll be NSNMotorsports and we can talk about anything you need to know on this EMS.

hopefully the resistors we put in place will solve the ever-so-irritating CEL problem, then we would be allllll gooooddd, but thats what im here for. ill get this thing started tonight, make the wires all purty, get the aux output to the fan relay and wait for the base map write-up-how-to.

you can call me if you want or shooting me an email is perfect too

thanks

Yep, we are doing resistors and a couple other things to trick the stock ECU to eliminate CEL's. If we don't get it eliminated all the way it's not a big deal it just won't be emissions legal really. Otherwise pulling that bulb out so it doesn't bother you is about a 5 minute task... you don't need that bulb with the Microtech controlling things because the bulb is then meaningless. So other than emissions we aren't too worried about the bulb.

We'll see what the future holds! We will release before we'd get the CEL figured out. I don't see a reason to hold up the unit for that issue when it won't matter to most of our potential customers.

Later.

Steve

**** the CEL , who cares. at least in my case, for my MSP, i can wire the stock ECU back in and turn the boost down the stock so whatever yo!

We are actually planning on having an add on option for the kit that will include a connectors set that makes it so you can wire the Microtech in and out of the overall system in less than a half hour if you need to go back to your stock ECU for CARB or emissions.

Doable. It'd make the install a little more difficult because it is that many more wires... but it would be doable. Probably use a bank of relays to do it. Then trigger that from a single switch. It'd be interesting... you could damn near start up with the stock ECU and switch over (But I sure WOULDN'T recommend trying that). But yeah it would be doable. The other concern is keep in mind that most that are running an EMS have different injectors and the like... and you'd have to add your MAF in and out (if you want it out for the lesser restriction). So it's not as simple for MOST installations of doing that, but it is an option! We'll work to customize the system for anybody that feels they need something a little different than what we will offer as our base unit. And a lot of the time the cost wouldn't change by much if any.

Yeah, i would be up for doing that s*** myself, ive got enough imagination and just enough electrical background to get me in trouble. cool cool.

Well guys :). Good news... the alternator works, the tach works... and we are moving along happily! The systems are ready to go from an installation and functionality standpoint. We are working on tuning up the first cars and once they are good to go we'll have a set of base maps to use for everyone and sales can start. We think it'll be about two weeks at this point. We just have to get the idles and driving tuned in and then things are set.

So great news overall! Microtech's will be ready to go pretty soon... just in time for those tax returns ;).

Bump yay for Microtech! Good bang for buck unit!

I've been recommended by Microtech guys that the Dash unit is a must! Well you dont have to get it but its a good unit (Microtech Dash)

the dash unit is quite sweet for what it does and what it is. Pretty sweet too that you can program and run the entire microtech WITHOUT a laptop. It's a bit harder and less intuitive.. but you CAN do it! I believe of the Protege possible EMS's we are the only one that can be effectively run without owning a laptop.

It's a relief for me too to be to that point! We just need to get the islanders up and running all the way to ensure no other issues to be concerned over (and get our base maps) and then it's good to go!

Not too bad since we started development in November.. and are going to be ready by the end of January basically :). I didn't use any of Terry's stuff either... did it a different way and it worked out very well!

Once we completely get them running I'll sit down and go over pricing again and see where things will stand. I'll offer all the upgrade options and the like as well.

Later!
