Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

Got my car back today, definitely a big difference. It took a lot to get it done but I'm very happy with the results. as for the broken parts, it looks like it was the drive shaft boot, the explanation for both were weak materials. "O2 sensor threads came apart" was another line, so I got one new O2 sensor as well.

One issue I noticed when driving on the highway..my alignment was off so I drove back and had them fix that.

Finally I'm glad to have this behind me. If they don't budge make sure you talk to a manager. I think the problem is that many techs don't know about the issue. The fact that it's a limited production car doesn't help either.

Pull the steering wheel in an out and see if its difficult. I noticed mine was very hard to do but after a few times it was ok.

I have a 2006 MS6 GT w/ 25,000 on it. I think my warranty expires in 2010.

The problem with this is that since it's a TSB, it's not a recall... as Chuyler said either escalate the problem to a manager, or go to another dealer.

Technically speaking the Clutch warranty is about 12 or 13k miles, so your clutch warranty has pretty much expired....

HOWEVER; to add to the good... and there are many proving cases in the pages of this thread. There apparently are some dealers or Service Advisors/Managers stating that the clutch warranty IS and ISN'T exponential to this TSB.

Some people have it done at 30k miles and some can't get it done at 18k miles. It all depends on your dealer.

Also keep in mind, TSBs are performed at the discretion of the dealership, Mazda cannot force them to do it. Frustrating I know (bang)

I will say that mine was done at 30k miles, and I had no issues in getting it covered under warranty. However, it is true that Mazda (home office, not the dealer) can deny the warranty repair if they feel there is not sufficient evidence that the issue is related to the TSB. The dealer doing the repair doesn't care, they get paid, warranty or not. You need a service rep that will fight for you to get it covered. Reading these makes me appreciate everything that my dealer rep does for me.

Did you finally find a dealer you like? I know I recommended a dealer up here in NH a while back for you, but the trip would be long. Hope it all works out for you!

Yup I ended up going to Ken like you suggested. Worked out well Since I work in Lawrence and we are looking at houses up that way in NH...

I always get a 2.3 Mazda3 for a rental, rofl.

When I had the TSB I had a 2.3 Mazda3 (or was it 2.0?) the last time I dropped my car off I got a "courtesy loaner" which was a whtie 2.3 mazda3... and i just got my car back for the transfercase TSB cause it was leaking (AND STILL IS, ******* DOUCHE BAGS), and the PCV changed for smoking horribly (i thought it was the turbo with the turbo seals) and I once again got the white courtesy loaner....


now of course I have to take the car back to mazda once again so they can fix the leaking with the transfercase, AGAIN... I'm going to demand a new freaking transfercase if i have to, and I bet I will get the white 2.3 mazda3 again, ROFL

I just had the dealership take care of this clutch TSB for me. My MS6 has 21k miles on it.

It definitely shifts better now, but it also shifts MUCH harder (1st and 2nd only) when the car is cold.

dropped off car on monday to john hine mazda in san diego. mentioned the verbage from the tsb and gave them the number. they were more then happy to get the matter resolved. i mentioned the flywheel issue as well and they ordered a new one. promised car back on friday...a small delay do to the flywheel coming from the midwest i believe. its all in the verbal delivery hahahaha... not to mention i have bought multiple mazdas from them. hopefully the final results will be like the others who are happy with the fix.

Flywheel issue? Am I missing something?

I'm still trying to get my 2nd gear issue taken care of, LOL

just that if there is blueing on the flywheel or it is out of specs that is should be replaced and not turned. i read that a few people had issues where the dealerships did nothing to the flywheel and upon installing the new clutch there were some issues with chattering and shaking. hope this clarifies things.

Gentlemen, I was able to get the clutch TSB done at Wellesley Mazda in Wellesley, MA on my 2006 MazdaSpeed6 with 29k on the odometer. I was denied by two others (Sentry West in Shrewsbury, MA was one of the dealerships that claimed the clutch "felt right"). The other dealership told me "this would be considered a clutch adjustment and you are outside of the 12k warranty".

I consider myself a good consumer advocate, so I chose to go right to the top of Mazda to get this done. I'm not going to discuss who I contacted, and who was involved, because I consider what they did for my a personal favor.

I only chose this route after Sentry West denied me, and also after I griped to Mazda Customer Service, who were also not helpful, and tended to defend the decisions of the dealers. Eventually, I was able to get the RSM to visit Wellesley Mazda and drive my car with me in the passengers seat. After a 15 minute drive, a good conversation, etc. he said "I will authorize this repair for you but I bet you will not be able to tell the difference". He was wrong, I can definitely tell the difference. And so can everyone else who drove the vehicle before and after. It's like night and day folks.

So, fellas, YMMV, but based on my experience, I had to pull out all the stops to get this one done. If you are motivated and professional, you can probably make something happen. I wouldn't expect to get this one paid for without some work, especially if your mileage is somewhat high like mine is.

BTW, I am now at 31.5k on the odometer, and I am still loving the new clutch. The clutch still feels firm and sporty, but now release is higher and less jerky, and clutch pedal effort is much less.
