Mazdaspeed3 thread

what the heck are you guys talking about?? the Mx-6 is long past..

the 2.0 in the Mazda 3 is completely different than the 2.0 from the Protege... The 2.3L Mazda 3 motor is simply a stroked version of the 2.0L... Neither of which has been offered with any sort of factory boost to date...

excuse me for talking out of my ass then... i was mis-informed, i thought for sure the 2.0 shared many simlar traits with the protege motor.

Also i said a refine 2.2 would be nice.

Here's an interesting test mule photographed (pics 14-17, I've defaulted the URL to the 14th):

As a powertrain mule (not camouflauged), no bother reading too much about the exterior (apart from the obvious being that it's the hatch bodystyle). However, the brake calipers & rotors seem to be a little different to me (larger), and as a result of that notice the rims are different and could be the final design (with center caps in real life of course). Sometimes manufacturers use the final wheel design in powertrain testing and sometimes they don't, but we'll all see and know soon enough.

damn... if thats going to be the look of the prod ms3 then the first thing on everyones mod list should be lowering springs... it looks even taller then my hatch...?? i can't wait to see what the aftermarked is going to be able to do with that direct ported 2.3l boosted... my dear god it should be fun!!!!

good point...???.... (headbang) awd would be even better, but every report has been no awd and detuned from 274 to 256 but those are all reports with no real release from mazda yet...

Holy s***! That is the same car that I saw near me doing a "test run". The difference was that the one I saw had an unpainted aluminum hood scoop and it had Michigan, manufacturer plates.

yeah if you want to play with the big boys you need awd... but price of an sti and evo 9 are around 30k..... thats just sick... a wrx is what 24??? i can't remember and to lazy to look... and the vulva i mean volvo s40t is 26+ if the ms3 is only front wheel but around 22-23 then its only competitor is the srt4 and i would much rather get a 3 then an srt4 (still a neon... fast neon but always a neon) anyways i think it would be nice with a lsd and the direct port engine and whatever other goodies they going to through at it...

Nice box!

I hope they do a little more to the body. I want to see the finished product in Sept.

thats just a powertrain test car. nothing really done to the body. so dont get all upset or excited yet

Mazda 3 MPS SPYSHOTS

The Mazda, however, may well have more power than its VW and Vauxhall rivals, because it shares its engine with the 6 MPS, a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor - note the bonnet scoop, disguised in this instance by a flipping great big cardboard box; the production version's intercooler scoop should be a bit more subtle. In the 6 it develops some 250bhp.

Unlike the 6 MPS though, the 3 is unlikely to feature four-wheel drive. However, because it's based on the Ford Focus/Volvo S40 platform, it's a technical possibility, because the Volvo is available with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. Should the MPS be front-driven, though, we'd imagine that the engine will be de-tuned too, to a level that the front wheels will more easily cope with.

It certainly looks the part, though. The already dynamic appearance of the 3 is in this instance enhanced by re-profiled front and rear bumpers, a large exhaust, that bonnet scoop, a tail spoiler and large alloy wheels.

It's reputedly going to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, which means it'll probably become available in the UK early in 2006.

I guess they are going to put a hood scoop to feed the top mount intercooler.
