Anyone go up against these? I guess they wouldn't put them in the same class anyway.

Obviously; I am sure we would smoke them, but by what margin?

i saw an mp3 eat up a rustang gt in autox. the rustang just couldnt hang the corners

I just traded in my 98 Convertible GT Mustang for an 03.5 MSP. Tell you one thing my Mustang felt like a freakin' tank compared to the MSP. My mustang weighed about 3500lbs.

Up your boost and you can get them either way. Straight line, or between the cones.

What a bogus comparison. At least compare it to something in the same class.

01 Mustang Cobra 55.123 55.193 > 53.553 T: 53.553 01 Mustang Cobra 54.334+5 55.930 > 53.60 T: 53.606

03 Mazdasp Prot 54.541+2 54.518+2 55.875 55.294
03 MS Protege 53.042+5 53.575 53.107 51.540

results from an autocross in Portland. I am the first MSP, MSPpro is the second. The Cobra was on R compounds. We were on street tires. He had the Injen on, I was bone stock.

the Cobra drivers are experienced. The MSP runs about the same as the C Prepared Mustangs...well, not with me driving, maybe Morris...

Ever since I can remember there has always been a rivalry between imports (especially Hondas) and Mustangs. Who cares if they are rear wheel drive. Not pointing the finger at anyone, but most of them around here are COCKS! So go get'em.

Friend at work drives an '01 Cobra. I can take him in any corner, when he slows down, i can still speed up. In a straight line, hes got me the whole way. He just has more TQ off the line and the HP to keep in front. I honestly dont know if an MBC will do the job. Ive driven his car too. But yea... totally different class.

Back in 96 my dad bought a BMW 540i 6 speed manual and took it to Dinan for the works. OMG, i wish he still had that car. It was a street machine.

My girlfriends dad also has an '88 M6 with a dinan package on it and only 45k miles. Too bad he wouldnt sell it to me. Doh.

Can you tell i love BMW?

:D

Here's the thing about autocross...its 98% DRIVER!!!

Example: Our autocrosses have a bunch of really good drivers come out, but the usual top 3 are drive VERY different cars. 2002 WS-6 Trans Am, 1994 Miata, and a 1998 Neon. These 3 are just examples but...
Neon is fast as hell, but stripped
Miata is not as fast, but has full interior
WS-6 is as it rolls of the showroom floor

All 3 have race tires(Kumho Victoracers). They are all withen .10 seconds of each other, some tracks favor each car more, but for the most part the driver is the only major factor.

Proof?

The guy with the Trans Am did not come out for the last 9 months as he had work problems, but there are Mustangs and Corvette's which are up at the top.

My point? Yes, the car does matter, but the driver is really the factor here.

thanks everyone....

I mention this because I saw a new Mach 1 (apparently traded in) at this Mitsubishi dealer yesterday, and it occured to me that perhaps; this guy may have traded in on a new EVO 8. So; of course, I must mention this to this Mustang GT owner at work. Ha!

It ws funny, actually. He said The guy's an idiot basically, if that's what he did. What else would you expect?! He's a nice guy and were good friends, but he feels Ford hung the Moon, and of course, the Mustang is God's gift to mankind. So; I email him over a couple of badass pics and the specs to the Evo. (oh! that was a good idea!! (lol)).

Anyway; he retorts with "You need to come to the SVOMustang club autocross next month". Now; I have never autocrossed. (you know; he's one of these guys that has a little respect for our car's but doesn't really understand what their about). It's all about American V8 Muscle - or it ain't s***!! blah,,,blah,,,

I said; Hey! Were talking about the EVO here - not me. So; I 'm not sure he has autocrossed either, but I figure if there is going to be any kind of showdown; it needs to be at SCCA sanctioned event, and not some Ford event, where they will, most likely throw empty Busch Light cans at me, and my MAZDASPEED.

I have wanted to autocross, just haven't yet. So; we will see. God! I would love to participate in something like that and wax his ass, so my car could actually get some respect.

I have been here long enough to know, and have read enough threads on the subject, that given equal drivers, our cars should destroy cars like Mustangs and Camaros in autocross events.

Well, you do have a ford PCM right?

Go, point the car where you want it to go and push the little pedal on the right.

In the words of a wise man - "Go that way really fast...if something gets in your way...turn."

That's all there is to it.

In our area we have a killer Mach 1 that the mazdaspeed will never ever catch. Its all driver and the Mach 1 is able to outcorner and out run any car in D stock any day of the week.

Not to burst any bubbles here but with totally equal drivers the Mach 1 will destroy the MSP. Need to see it for yourself? Check out the nationals this year and look at the scores for F stock verses D stock. Kent Weaver in F stock is in my region and of course can drive my car better than I can, but look at his time verses Shawn Mundis and his Type R (closest thing running and most definately faster than the MSP with equal drivers).

And by the way, the Evos aren't posting times any faster than Kent and his Mach 1 either. Thats why we have classes, and eventually reclassing to put things in the right place. The mach 1 is the superior autocrosser according to this year's national standings... by a long shot.

OMG ROFL (rofl)

1) I LOVE that movie...

Monique Junot: He keeps putting his testicles all over me.
Lane Myer: Excuse me?
Monique Junot: You know, like octopus? Testicles?
Lane Myer: Ohhhh. Tentacles. N-T.

2) If you are on street tires, I highly recommend that you run in STX. You may be OK in DS, but you are entirely outclassed in DSP unless you are modded (which is how you got there) and on R-comps! Of course...In the rain i could best cars in DSP because the drivers have no clue how to drive on Street rubber. Of course...once the course dried up a little, the only driver on R-comps that day tore us all a new one and ran 5-7 secs faster than me.

3) The only way to get better is: seat time! You can have people come out with you and assist in your learning, but it will still take you time to learn exactly what they meant when they said, "brake harder, now turn in, less input, LESS!!" But it will come...drive it soft where you have to and let it loose where you can.

4) Go do it, Old Man! You'll love it!

There is now way of making this comparison in a fair manner. I worked for Steeda (a major player in the Mustang aftermarket) for over a year, and I can tell you that a mildly modified Mustang vs. a mildly modified MSP...I give it to the Mustang every time. While the lighter MSP is more nimble going into the turns its lacks the torque and RWD configuration that the Mustang has to exit corners at serious speeds.

Its 90% driver, and about 10% car. I'm not knocking the Mazdaspeed, I sold my 1999 supercharged GT to buy one (family on the way). Both are great cars, and both have a lot of potential. The fact is however, the Mustang has a much stronger aftermarket. With a 5-link rear or torque arm/PHB rear suspension setupsthe Mustang is extremely competitive in AutoX and many other open track events.

Just my $.02

Do it Greg!!! You'll LOVE autox!

You know how you love driving to work through all the twisties. Well, autox compresses all of that into less than a minute while you're totally at the limit. It is a true adrenaline rush.

You probably won't beat him your first time out. But you may surprise yourself ( and him!) at how close you get. See 122 Vega's first post on our autox times that day.

The car is VERY capable. Autox will hone your skills to extract the most that the car is capable of. And that's very addicting! And FUN!

Yeah autox is most definately a must do, at least once for everyone.

And I agree, driver is everything.
A good driver can get in any car and do well.
