Does anybody know at what temperature the msp thermostat starts to open, I read some threads about a msp low temp thermostat but that confused me. Thanks
Stock thermostat opens at 195 degrees. There are other thermostats available, the one I know of opens up at 170 degrees. Some will argue that allowing the coolant to flow sooner actually hurts performance because it takes the engine longer to get to normal operating temperatures. Others will tell you that opening the flow of coolant earlier will keep operating temps down and cause less wear on oil, bearings, etc. But IMO if you're still sitting at around stock HP and TQ then I would just keep the factory t-stat.
I replaced the thermostat yesterday I bought it from AutoZone it says start to open at 180 F and is the oe replacement, I think that will be fine. Just want to make sure if mazdaspeed protege and protege5 or regular protege are at the same rating temperature.
Well this is the part number for the OEM replacement KL01-15-171A. That one is supposed to open at 195 degrees and all Protege's should use the same thermostat. But even at that temp I'm sure you'll have no problems.
