mazdaspeed exhaust has arrived

well if you dont want to do it the easy way this is how it goes.
"The service manual says you can remove it in one piece. To get it out in one piece the instructions say:
1) Remove the rear shock absorber lower bolts
2) Loosen the rear crossmember component installation bolts (6 locations) and lower the rear crossmember component approx. 70 mm {2.8 in.}.
3) Remove the main silencer."

That doesn't sound too bad. Since I'll have the car on a 4 post lift, this should be a snap.

yea its not so bad but i was just working on my back the whole time and plus i wanted to be able to store it easier so i just cut it.

Sounds really sweet, kinda suby like at low rpm. I might hop on this as long as the install can be done with out cutting anything which does seems to be with a lift.

A lift would make it worse to remove whole. The six bolts are holding the whole rear suspension on the unibody I believe. I haven't done an exhaust on my Speed 3 yet but, that is the way it was on my Ford Focus. Once you remove the 6 bolts you need to hold up the whole rear suspensions weight. I'll assume that if you have a lift you have a trans jack but, I would count on the rear balancing that well.

Got mine yesterday, but had to drop it off at my friend's house. Wife doesn't know I dropped 6 bones on another upgrade. she would kill me considering how much I ragged on her for spending $400 on Victoria Secret bathing suits. I'll try to Dyno it after install.

Pics of the exhaust and your wife in the bathing suit please

Why do people say that the CBE doenst do much for performance and that its an expensive upgrade with little gains?

I was thinking about getting one but I keep hearing this and also cant imagine how the major difference being that its only .5 inch larger doing a whole lot. The stock pipes are all mandrel bent just stock so I dont know that there is much room for improvement.

The real restriction in our exhaust is the cats. High flow or test pipe will help this. Once you take that restriction out then the gains from going to 3" will be better.

CBE is nothing but a waste of money. YOu need to replace your downpipe. You want some real gains, how do you expect gains if your downpipe still has two cats and is less the 2.5" hooked up to a 3" inch. What gains could you possible feel. 729 for CBE is a rip...

the mazda speed cat back loooks nice, but its seems not that loud , i like the way the cpe catback has that loud angry, agressive, sound

For turbo cars with around 250 hp like ours 2.5" is plenty of width. For going over 300 hp 2.5" is too small and 3" is needed. Go up to 400 hp and 3" is too small.

Cats = Bad

Performance > Sound/Look

Check out the exhaust theory thread for turbo applications.

if my wife spent 400 at victoria sectrets. means she woudl or will spend 500-600 on me. plus she has new bathing suits!!! (but prefer the other stuff from there).

if and when yo do drop the rear. dont unbolt the brakes cables. or line. that will keep it from falling or help ! but all you need is a few jack stands and a jack. and possible if you have them run the fron tires onto ramps use stands in the rear! so you have the extra room to work. and drop rear sub.

every body has an exhuast "theory" the only thing that is believible is a fair dyno before and after , than you'll know the truth

What are you talking about GSR. WTF theory are you reffering to??? Its plain and simple. CBE is s***. Be a man replace the full exhaust.

yeah maybe your rite it just seems like i hear so many different ideas , like one guy on here said he installed a down pipe and lost power. ? ...
