mazdaspeed exhaust has arrived

Think I'll save my $700 and wait for Cobb's AccessPORT to come out... or put that money into a better TMIC... both which are making really good hp gains on the dyno's I've seen/heard about.

TMIC will be cheaper, easier to install, and I think guys are getting 20-25 hp from this mod alone?

AccessPORT is supposed to bring a stock MS3 with no other upgrades up to like 290 whp, and is just plug it in, flash and go.

I also agree that the stock exhaust is loud enough for those of us who don't want the attention.

I know we have to wait for a back to back dyno of stock vs. cat back, but I doubt it will make that much power.

Case in point - Sport Compact Car magazine dyno'ed a bone stock MS3 and then one that had the cat back and MS CAI, and gained about 15 whp.

By comparison, many people here have dynoed with the stock intake and then just the CAI, and gained anywhere from 10-25 whp. Which tells me that in the Sport Compact Car comparison, the intake made the majority of the difference in power.

I'd be very surprised if a catback made more than 5-10 hp. It will speed up turbo spool which will make the car 'feel' faster and more responsive, for sure. But as others mentioned above.... for real power you need FULL exhuast, turbo back.

here is the mazdaspeed exhaust. just came in today and hopefully it will be put on tomorrow. i will get some pictures of the install. looks simple with the exception of having to cut a small section out with a hacksaw.

When you are done can you get pics of all the pieces of the stock exhaust layed out like you have the new exhaust. I am interested in seeing how it looks all nice and disassembled :)

i work for a mazda dealer. 475 is cost. full list is 699 i think. parts are negotiable just like cars. just work your local parts departments. keep in mind, this is a very limited part. on the mazda parts order screen it only show 42 at the warehouse.

So is this CBE worth getting or not?

Going to the dealer tomorrow and have a 15% off card from when I bought the car but the parts guy was a dick last time and wouldnt let me use it with out mkaring up the cost for the CAI.

I will have to look into it and beat the s*** out of him if he tries this again. Sort of bull s*** to get a 15% thank you for buying the car letter then when you use it they jack up the cost.

Good to know $475 is cost so he cant jerk with me on this.

good to know that cost helped. if he says otherwise he's lying. i really hate when dealerships screw over people. cause it gives the fun, easy going, laid back dealerships like mine bad names. if you have anymore price questions let me know.
and i will let everyone know how the exhaust works out sometime this weekend.

Wasn't there a vendor on here that tried dynoing back to back with the stock exhaust and then disconnected the cat back and saw like no power gain at all except in the very low RPM due to faster spooling turbo?

Wasn't there another vendor who also showed that a catback exhaust gained almost nothing?

I dunno for stock or moderately increased power levels... I really thing 2.5" mandrel is big enough and doubt even the better cat is going to make much of a difference.

I say definately NOT WORTH IT.

Even if you can get it for $500, you can get a bigger TMIC for that much which will gain you more power and the added benefit of less heat soak, so more power for longer, or you can save up an extra 20,000 pennies and get the Cobb AccessPORT and make even more power without installing anything.

i appreciate your concern for how myself and others spend their money.

What is accessport?

I realize that the TMIC may result in higher gains but I like stuff that is covered under warranty and that seems to be the MS stuff obviously. I worry that some how that TMIC will negatively differ from stock like in the rain or something and cause issues.

On the other hand I dont want to pay $600 for CBE and have it not do much for me.

plug n play programmer from cobb tuning. look them up and look at the gains they have with Sti's and wrx's.

I love the new sound! Install was not too difficult. Myself and one of my Mazda Techs put it on with no real trouble. Most difficult part was cutting the old exhaust, but when that was done, it was simple. Can I feel any more power? It's hard to say. It sounds great, and we all know louder means faster!

My dealer flat out told me today that the CBE is worthless for the money and didnt even try to sell it to me.

I went in for the motor mount today and figured they could talk me into a purcahse and install of the CBE but he woudlnt even sell it to me. The MS parts manager said it was very minimal gains and cost way too much for what it is compared to stock.

They also said that a TMIC woudl void little s*** like the engine and turbo, lol. So looks like the CAI and tint are going to be my only upgrades unless I feel like unbolting the IC every time I go for an oil change.

or you could take it to jiffy lube... or do it yourself... just a thought.

btw, louder does mean faster. haha.

That is a good point to take it to a generic lube place but I like going to the dealer and I can eaily justify not spending $500 right now, lol.
