MazdaSpeed exhaust and CAI HP?

the cat back exhaust only makes like 8-10hp and the intake makes realistically around 10whp.

The intake makes way more than 10whp. I dynoed my car before and after with the MS CAI and my results showed a 10.14% HP gain and 10.28% Torque gain. The dynos were done one day apart at the same environmental conditions and same dyno setup.

I have a thread here with my results:

the ms catback is still a 2.5 or is it a 3? cause i would like to get the ms cbe now and upgrade up to the downpipe later.

It's 3". I have it and my power did go up a bit. I plan to dyno it soon with the MS CBE and MS CAI.

i would liek to see those dyno number. even if the peak hp doesn't go up i would like to see if it goes up in the mid and low

speedy3 how do you like the mazdaspeed catback. Ive been thinking about it for a while..i love how it sounds..not too loud. Some people say no gains and others say with the cai they have gains..whats are the facts people?

I felt a difference in low-end torque and overall power across the band. Although, I don't think the gains are very great. Maybe 5-10 HP. I do plan to Dyno the car when the temp/humidity matches the conditions when i dynoed the car with the MS CAI. The sound with this exhaust is different. It is a two-tone sound, which comes from the two resonators (one more than stock) in the pipes. It really sounds good. I think it makes the car sound more like a performance european sports car as opposed to a coffee-can rice burner. It is a deeper sound with a lower and just a bit louder note. It's not too goddy. I actually catch myself rolling down the left side windows so I can hear it!

Not worth the money though unless you have the money to spend, but a very nice touch.

Mazdaspeed 3 by mazdaspeed accessories

I remember while reading reviews of the MS3 they would mention a "dealer kit" that would increase the power to something like 290 hp and 300 torque (or something). The kit was the CAI, exhaust, suspension parts of some kind, and the Rays wheels (IIRC).

I believe you are talking about the Mazdaspeed 3 by Mazdaspeed accessories. Pretty much put coilovers, CAI, Exhaust, and rims. here is the link

The MS3 stock exhaust comes with 2 resontors and 1 straight thru design muffler. You are right that its not worth the money unless you have cash to burn.

what about the mazdaspeed3 mazdaspeed exhaust.. did they make larger pipes? or take out a resignator..

together i think 25whp

The guy responsible for developing MS accessories reportedly says 30 hp for the CAI:

To illustrate some of the customizing that can be done to a MAZDASPEED3, Stavana had a special MAZDASPEED3 at the track, outfitted with suspension upgrades, new wheels and a cold air intake. Stavana said the cold air intake adds about 30 horsepower, with virtually no increase in emissions.

He doesn't mention any gains for the exhaust and I assume he means bhp on the CAI, which would be about 25 whp.

Here Driving Sports Online claim a dyno showed more power, which may include a couple of additional hp from the exhaust:

They brought one custom MAZDASPEED3 to the track, outfitted with the same goods you can buy today for your street car. Cold air intake, cat-back exhaust, coilover suspension, and lightweight aluminum wheels with 245/45 tires. On the dyno, MAZDASPEEDs factory-certified full-warranty accessories gave this car another 35 horsepower and 30 foot-pounds of torque.

I gotta think they're quoting Mazda on bhp and not a dyno they did themselves yeilding 35 more whp.

I did a SW dyno today with the CAI and CBE. I also have SW Dyno data from Stock and from just the MS CAI. The results indicate a 3.3% gain in whp and a 1.2% gain in wheel-torque going from CAI to CAI+CBE.

Combined, the CAI and CBE show a 13.9% gain in whp and an 8.9% gain in wheel-torque. If you apply these to the stock bhp numbers of 263 bhp and 280 bt, you get:

263*(1+.139) = 299.56
280*(1+.089) = 304.92

Thats a difference of 36.56 hp and 24.92 torque with MS CAI and CBE.

Speedy did you install it yourself? will it fit the corksport test pipe and down pipe later when I want to upgrade to a full exhaust?

Yes, I installed all myself. I did the CBE in about 1 hour while my wife went to the store. I didn't want her know I bought it!

The MS CBE mounts to the existing mid pipe to the existing flange with a new gasket to accomodate the new 3" exhaust. The CS Test pipe is designed to duplicate the stock mounting flange, so I don't think there will be any issues.

Does anyone know if the MS CBE flange gasket will mate to any off brand mid pipe/test pipe without issues?
