Tri-Point Motorsports Prepared for Sebring and the 2007 SPEED Touring Car Season
CANOGA PARK, Calif. (Mar. 12, 2007) - After a season long battle for the Manufacturers' and Drivers" 2006 SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Titles that netted hard fought second places in both categories, the Tri-Point Motorsports MAZDA6 powered race team will be trying for the top step of the podium in 2007.
Tri-Point hot shoe Jeff Altenburg of Ellicott City, Md. will be returning in his electric blue and white No. 72 MAZDA6, and will again be joined by road racing ace Randy Pobst of Gainesville, Ga. in the No. 73 Tri-Point entry for the full 2007 schedule.
"I feel like I'm mentally, physically and mechanically better prepared than I ever have been for this season, Altenburg said. "I"ve got two guys (Ron Carroll and Brett) working on my No. 72 MAZDA6 that Im excited to work with this year. Ive been training all winter in the gym, and Ive lost a few pounds. Theres no doubt about it, Im ready to go.
I'm thrilled to be back in my fantastic No. 73 MAZDA6 Touring Car, Pobst said. Tri-Point Engineering and Craig Nagler have made it better than ever. After finishing second two years in a row, it is Mazda's turn to take the top podium for the Championship. Craig, teammate Jeff Altenburg, the Tri-Point team and I are gunnin' for the gold!
The Tri-Point squad, widely recognized as one of the most professionally run teams in the SPEED Touring Car paddock, will be up against some tough competition again this year. Tindol Motorsports will be returning with their MAZDA6s, and the STaSIS team will be running their all-wheel drive Audi A4s. And finally, RealTime Racing will be back in their new for 2007 sequential gearbox equipped Acura TSXs.
Knowing full well that the SPEED World Challenge series has become one of the most competitive road racing series anywhere, the Tri-Point squad has worked hard throughout the off season winter months to prepare for the upcoming ten race schedule. The entire Tri-Point squad is confident that they will again be able to bring a very competitive effort to the table for the entire 2007 season. The teams primary focus is to secure the Manufacturers Championship for Mazda in 2007, and to provide Altenburg and Pobst with the equipment and support to win a Drivers Championship as well.
We are going to return with two MAZDA6s again for 07, and Jeff and Randy are going to be our guys for the third year in a row, Tri-Point Team Principal Craig Nagler said. We have been preparing in the off season to make sure we have our MAZDA6s ready for the season long battle. Every year the competition gets stronger with more teams running up front, and we are looking forward to the challenge.
The season opening event for the SPEED World Challenge series will be the weekend of the 55th running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race will be a 50 minute sprint race set to start at 11:50 am EST the morning of Friday, March 16th. After a promoter test day on Tuesday March 13, the first official day of practice for the 2007 SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series will be held at 9:20 am EST on Wednesday March 14th.
Tri-Point Motorsports is happy to announce that the group of supporters and sponsors that helped them in 2006 have agreed to continue for the 2007 season. The entire Tri-Point squad thanks the following for their continued support in the effort to bring Mazda a championship in 07: Mazda, Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, Racing Hart, Stop Tech, Recaro, Crocotile, Quarter Master, Ron Davis Racing, Hawk, Koni NA, Pro Parts USA, and Race Sign Specialists.
