Mazda3 Coupe?

Just wondering what yall thought of the idea of the Mazda3 coupe? I have read some posts where some had wished they had come out with a coupe version initially.

Would a coupe be popular? Would they have to ditch a model?

I know that I would love to see a coupe version of the Mazda3.

How about this.

If Mazda were to come out and say that they want to come out with a coupe model:

What would you tell them they should do when it comes to designing such a product AND what kind of adjustments you would have made on the coupe to that of the sedan.

Ala, Cobalt. Two very distinct body types between its Coupe and Sedan or Saturn Ions which are just not as good, but have distinct design differences between sedan and coupe.

Would you make 18" wheels an option?

I guess this is just a time to brain storm and come up with some good ideas for a kind of Mazda3 I think most of us would like to see.

I'd leave the 17" wheels for lightened and acceleration purposes. Larger's not always better....

I wish Mazda made a non-MX5 variant coupe (off the 3 or some other new platform) or Nissan brought back the "Slivia" S14/S15 platform. Or even Subaru bring back a 2-door 2.5 RS/WRX/STi (I love those older body styles).

Hell, I thought the Focus was to share the Mazda3/Volvo S40 platform - would they not make a 3-door Focus anyway?

Most of the "affordable" compact sport sedans do nothing for me.

Coupes are not as popular as they used to be. People have realized that they could get good performance and 4 door utility in one package. That was the tought behind the RX-8. Honda's new Si will be available as a 4 door next spring, which is only 6 months behind the coupe. There will also be performance version of the Cobalt sedan next year. It will basically have all the parts from the SS except for the supercharger and will put out about 170 hp. Myself for one couldn't afford to drive a coupe. In the next year or so my wife and I are talking about a baby, and there is no way I am going to deal with a car seat with two doors. Not to mention the extra cost of insurance. I think this is the reason why the Lexus never introduced their IS coupe.

Heck... they already have one. ;)

I'm not all that fond of the hatchback, but that looks nice. If there were going to be a coupe I would definately want to see this produced for the U.S. market. I don't think the sedan would look as good though.
