Mazda Speed Upgrade Options?

The Drunken Panda has a fighting style unlike any other! lol. I got to stop smoking my MSP's exhaust fumes.

For starters, yes.......If that doesn't work - see a therapist.

One of the more common problems for the cars that we should also mention is that a coolant leak on the bypass hose to the block is becoming more of a hassle. Just had mine fixed yesterday.

Other than that, I havent had a problem yet and have almost 2k miles on the car. No clunk from the rear end, but it did have that problem with the surging. It hasn't been that bad though since we changed out the intake.

Alright I will use the damn search...im just sooo lazy. But all of these problems can be fixed under waranty then? I dont like the sound of that stalling or hesitiation problem.

I don't think the stalling/hesitation problem has been fixed yet. Nobody seems to know why it's happening.

Mazda Canada told me their lead engineer has diagnosed the stalling problem; I'm assuming this is also related to the hesitation - something is wrong with the ECU.

Mazda is currently working on a new computer program and possibly updated components. When the fix is complete, I'm red-flagged to have the update flashed onto my car. So if you haven't heard from me, then I've heard nothing from Mazda.

Ya, it's under warranty, but the question is "how long will it take Mazda to solve these problems?". Not to mention how many times my car has been back to the dealership for maintenance.

wow, I thought mazda was making some pretty reliable cars...makes me not want to get the MSP until these problems are fixed. is the 6 having this problem as well?

I doubt there will be a recall - some MSP's don't suffer from stalling or hesitation at all; not to mention that Mazda would have egg on their face after introducing their first MazdaSpeed and there's a recall on it ;)

But, if your car is suffering from the stalling, and I inform the crew of the fix (since Mazda will inform me first), make sure to go to your dealership ASAP. Yes, this will be covered under warranty.

Yea really, now this is going to hold me back on the MSP..

Sorry for sounding negative. Besides the issues, it's really a fun car to drive. Honestly.

But stalling is a safety concern. Some Forum members don't think so, and honestly don't care if their car stalls when driving. I do.

Sorry. BUT, Mazda will fix it, so perhaps when your seriously looking to purchase a 2003.5, the fix may already placed on it.

As far as issues with the Mazda 6 - can't help you out. Basically conduct your research under the Mazda 6 Forum (if it exists), and make your decisions from there...

Hey guys I work at Ford... Yeah I know, but anyway Mazda is just like Ford when it comes to the layout. We have ways of saying oops we fu*ked up, without the term recall sounding bad. They will probably have a campain, where if you come in and ask for probable causes they say oh yeah well this can sometimes happen. I will get on ford's website soon and see if I keep everyone updated on what's out.

I was going in to buy a 6s and didn't.

A repost buy hey ...Overall the 6s was heavy and slow compared to the MSP. Not nearly as athletic.

Mazda Rev it UP
The Rev It Up event was badass. Myself, a co-worker, and two of my cousins showed up and oh yes we did drive!
The whole line up of Mazda cars was available to drive around the test track including a yellow 2003.5 MSP.
On the test track they stressed DONT GO FAST.
Yeah right! We tore that test track up in a 6s turned off the traction control, put it in manu-matic mode and 1st-2cnd geared it the whole way. It was a blast. One chode hit the moose they had on the track and he was escorted off. Moose?
Yeah moose. They had this cardboard moose setup to pop up at you when you were busting ass around the "Test drive" track.
Of course we ran the 6 speed Miata and MSP around as well.
You started off in one of several lines. Each one labeled as to which model of car was awaiting you.
Then once the cars came around you were waved up to the one in front of you and you drove around and waited while the course worker gave you the lo-down. The first section had a "acceleration test" sign, straight into a ABS test sign (which we ran every time), it went straight into a hard left and through a slalom section. It was one of the longest tracks at the event.
I cant remember all the details but man it was cool. I was just barley keeping on the course and we were risking ejection but man we ran that test course all day in-between the competition runs and the race clinics.
There were about 3 yellow 2003.5's around the place one was a Sirius radio car, one was in a performance tent, and one was on the test track. BTW the 6s sucks nuts compared to our cars. It has great brakes and handles well for a big front drive but man MSP stomps its ass. I am really glad I didnt buy one now.
They had a bunch of free coin op games to play, co-carts, and unlimited test drive runs. All in all the best 39 bucks I ever spent.
Mt 10 yr old daughter was strapped in the back on our test track runs and was screaming like a hyperactive banshee. She had as much fun as we did. I really liked the fact that you could ride with your buds while they drove the test track and vice versa. Dont buy that keep it in automatic mode crap they tell you at the chalk talk and in the clinics. The Pros got us aside at the competition and told us to turn off the traction control and to use 1st-2ncd all through the course. Drive the 6s in manual mode on the
test drive track and push it make sure you get the hang of the manu-matic before the
competition run. In the standard drive position its a real dog.
I didnt win but at 39.00$ how could I lose?
If you can go then by all means do so. It is great.

Hell no! - my wife is expecting this summer so we needed to buy a 4-door "family sedan". ;)

Our 2-door Honda wasn't going to cut it anymore with a baby seat in the back :D

hehe, yea mazda speeds seems like a better choice now...its just that stalling problem. Do the 2003.5's have that problem too?

I'm not sure - they just started selling them, so hopefully their owners will let us 03 MSP owners know.

But, I'd bet money on it that they will...same ECU, same everything, with the exception of wheels, spoiler, front facia, Mazadaspeed shifter/pedals (rather than Sparco), and colour; I'm I missing anything else?
