Mazda Rx-7 Question

spend the extra money for one in better shape if you're set on an RX-7. they aren't reliable unless cared for properly so you should look for one that has been babied

I was gonna ask the same basic question, but the one I'm looking at is an 87 with 126,000 miles on it, non-turbo, near mint interior and engine bay, guy's grandfather (ex-navy with 3 other rotories) has had it for 26 years and decided to get rid of it to buy a 95 FD.

He's asking $3K, but when I was talking to him he made it pretty clear that he would drop the price, so I'm guessing maybe $2200-$2500. Worth it?

$2000 is a good price. $2500 is the absolute most I'd pay on something like that.

how can he have a 1987 car for 26 years ;)

22 years*

you're saying $2500 if it's all in perfect condition? or if there are a few little things wrong (seats are torn up, but it has covers, and there are a few blemishes on the paint, but nothing major.)

$2500 for a non turbo rx-7 in very good shape is reasonable to me. paint blemishes and torn seats cost money to fix and detract from the resale value, friend or no friend. sorry if that sounds harsh but when i look at buying a used car, especially an older rotary, i want to make sure i don't pay more than i have to.

dude, seat covers are gay :) (chair)

I bought an FC ('87) with 189k for 700 bucks. It definately ain't a show car, but it passed smog without a problem and it's got lotsa power.

Keep looking. ;)

Nah, they're sheepskin. Very very nice. I'd get a new driver seat anyway probably.

He's not a friend either, just a casual aquantance (sp?) so dont worry about that. The seat's I dont really care about, but I will definatly use them in the negotiating if it gets that far.

Any sugestions what to look for mechanically? Like I said, the engine bay is nearly pristine, but that doesn't mean that the stuff inside is good. I guess I could just take it to a good rotory mechanic to get it checked out before I buy it, but theres only one or two, and the closest one is like 30 minutes away

See that's the thing natey, this isn't gonna be a totaly beater. I'm gonna use it for my daily driver for probably a year or more until my insurance rates start to go down (long story, for those who havn't heard it) on the P5.
