Mazda CX-5 messaging

Are you trying to receive a text on the dash screen and have it displayed or read to you? If that is the case it will not do that with any iPhone. The best you can do depending on iOS version is get it display a message received box with an option to download message. When you press download nothing will happen.
To activate the message box go to Bluetooth on phone press the I next to Mazda then turn on show notifications.

This is exactly my experience, and one of my biggest issues with the CX-5 (the biggest being the strength/quality of the OEM windshield)

It's amazing how Mazda built such incredibly good vehicles yet they distribute this buggy, subpar infotainment system across their lineup.

Annoyingly, the new CX-5's haven't improved this unit much, just adding the dial control below the shiftknob (akin to BMW iDrive) and added some nice information improvements to the dashboard. But they screwed up a lot on the new CX-5, too, ESPECIALLY the inclusion of an electronic parking brake. This is NOT the Mazda way.

This is generally true of all infotainment systems. Follow Edmunds long term reviews where they keep a car for a year and you'll see issues that make the CX-5's look minor. The standard automotive engineering process doesn't work well with fast-changing personal electronics and things like user interface design and the continual software maintenance required. I wouldn't hold my breath on things like CarPlay fixing this, either. Outsourcing didn't make Ford's sync system work any better. At some point, the hardware is old, the contract to maintain the software is over, and that's it for updates.

Also re: iphone issues, it's not just a Mazda problem - the iphone is notoriously glitchy in its implementation of various standards and protocols. It's the Apple way...

My Android Nexus 4 works fine for messaging but. I can manipulate Pandora but not through the Pandora app in the car. However that feature works fine with my Wife's Droid Razr.

Why the hate for the parking break? I think it's awesome. Very slick as opposed to having to pull a giant arm akin to how they used to stop horse drawn carriages.

My iPhone 6 up to date iOS works fine with my 16. Messages are presented on the screen as a notification and I have the choice to Read (by voice) or ignore. aHa radio works fine except I have to ALWAYS allow it to access the app through bluetooth. Annoying. We cannot get Pandora here in Canada but I have found a few cool Alternatives stations on aHa.

Looks like TSB is finally released to fix this. This screenshot was posted over on the Mazda6 forums.

At extreme probably a BT module swap. Not sure how much of the dash needs to be taken apart or if this can be accessed via the glove box. I'll have to check my FSM.

Anybody with an IPhone verify this TSB actually fixes the issue of text messages not being displayed (or otherwise) when using an IPhone?
