No I'm not, I legitimately haven't worked it out yet. What I want to do is have the stock input shaft and pinion shaft machined, as well as the gearsets from a "known strong" transmission that I can obtain cheaply and run needle bearings to mate the gears to the shafts. Simple as that. I would run the synchro assemblies from the swapped in gears, and simply have some custom forks machined to work with the stock rods and drum, but the swapped hubs.
Why do this instead of PAR? I am ******* sick of pumping thousands after thousands of dollars into this car. It's not as "fun" as it used to be anymore. I figure this could be accomplishe for around $1500. That's a few thousand cheaper than a full PAR setup.
Par is not that expensive
You could fix your problem for $700... Replace 3rd.
Awesome what trans are you going to source gears from?
I have had ZERO time to research viable options so far. It's even crossed my mind to stay within the Mazda family and pull the guts out of the Euro spec Mazda 6 MPS. I really like the ratios in that trans, and they're built like a brick shithouse from what I understand. Before anyone asks, I will not be attempting any form of 6 speed conversion. It'd be nice, but 5 gears with the right ratios will work out just fine.
Then when 2nd blows, another $700. Then when 4th blows, yup another $700. Not to mention replacing whatever else is taken out when there's chunks of gear flying around inside the case.
You made my point.. You want to run 18 PSI daily... PONY UP or Lower your Boost or Sell the car
Why be on a budget. Fix this thing properly now, instead of screwing around with more OEM Garbage that might or might not survive.
