Yup...
I strongly recommend that NOBODY stick a screwdriver inside your MAF to check that little plastic tab hanging down the middle like tonsils in your throat.

It'll cost you $340 for the part, plus $20 for tax, and another $20 if you need it by the next day.

I found this out the hard way.

I had even thought that they made a mistake by only charging me $303.00 because they miskeyed my credit card, but low and behold they caught the mistake and charged me the extra $80 bucks the next day.

DOH!

why were you sticking a screwdriver in it in the 1st place, like you said the "little" plastic tab, wouldn't that give you a hint that its easy to break?

don't chastize him for it... it was a simple mistake... he's learned his lesson and paid for it up the goatass. leave the guy alone... it's not like he doesn't feel bad enough as it is. sheesh... he comes here to tell us not to mess with it as a favor and warning to all people trying to toy with the MAF and you gotta go rip on him... :slap your hand:

thanks tonkabui....
I about cried to my wife when it happend. I had just spent $260 on a muffler that same day and my mortgage was due the following week. I'm scraping now and my wife has to go back to work.

See what these cars do to us? heheheheh

And about New Mexico....it's good to here that atleast one of you has heard that we're a state in the U.S. and that you don't need a passport to come here.

I live just south of Santa Fe, which I might add is the first or second most visited city in the U.S. according to several travel magazines. It's about 10th in the world. cool, huh?

I've seen a few P5s around here, but not many. That's one thing I like about my car is that it gets a lot of attention because there's so few of them.

i agree, mine went bad a couple of months ago and paid 125.00 shipped from a salvage yard in ontario to cali. sorry to hear about your misfortune i know your pain and frustration. BELIEVE ME!!!

bryan, next time, ask here first, I could get you one, used but good, for $100 or another guy here has one for $60

Ok maybe a dumb question, but why is everyone who is not sticking a screwdriver in the mafs buying replacements? Venom might make a performance replacement, they make em for some of the other cars out there.

not lecturing, but rather curious...why have like 20 people broke their MAF by sticking s*** in them? are you guys doing some science project?

are there larger MAFs out there for the P5? what about the msp? are they bigger?

changing the mass air flow sensor alone will do absolutely nothing for the Protege. the MAF between the protege and mazdaspeed protege are the same. Regardless of MAF size, the ECU will not acknowledge a signal from it or any other source but itself to alter fuel maps or mix while under load/full throttle.

Modern Performance's turbo utilizes a bigger MAF in conjucntion with fuel management (ECU).

my maf just went bad, tried to start her up one morning and she died. It ran, but couldn't find an idle and didn't know what to do under acceleration. As for others I don't know why ther were using screwdrivers.

s*** i have 4 extra ones sitting in my garage. I would have been more than happy to get one to you.
